    Exclamation Alabama Grocery Tax...?!?

More Good News for the Alabama Residents :

Alabama lawmakers on Thursday advanced legislation to remove half of the state’s 4% sales tax on groceries, a proposal that garnered broad bipartisan support in the face of soaring food prices.

Some Damn Dem Lawmakers aren't All Bad as
The House of Representatives voted 103-0 for the legislation that would gradually remove the tax by one percentage point a year, provided there is enough growth in tax collections to offset the revenue loss, until the tax drops to 2%. The bill now moves to the Alabama Senate, where all senators have signed on in support of similar legislation.
Alabama is one of only three states that tax groceries at the same rate as other purchases. Some lawmakers, mostly Democrats, had for decades unsuccessfully pushed for the removal. But the measure gained bipartisan traction this year in the face of rare budget surplus and consumer frustration over rising food prices. Proponents said reducing the tax would help every Alabamian every time they walk in the grocery store.

Well, geez, what a relief! On top of the whoppin' rebate too!

Oh, look! I found my Florida receipt from the grocery store ... yep, again ... zero tax on my yummy food.

Here in the FL Panhandle, we are sometimes called "lower Alabama". But we is better than that!

Indiana doesn't place sales tax on most groceries. If classified as candy or soda, the sales tax is charged.

This link shows how eaxh state handles it.

Here in Colorado we don't tax "uncooked, unprepared" groceries at the state level (but there are exceptions), but individual local cities and/or counties do tax groceries if it's voted in by the morons who have no better sense, or who live off of EBT cards and other welfare and subsidies, and don't give a shit what others have to pay in taxes anyway.

If you buy a bag of potatoes to make your potato salad, you don't pay tax. If you buy prepared potato salad, you do pay tax.

Unfortunately the Great State of Tennessee does. 4% if memory serves but 7% for prepared food like the roasted chickens from the deli.

I have to add something to your signature line. Don't just give Gunny Penny a medal, send him a few dollars for his defense.
