In the 1930s Germany prepared the way to exterminate the European Jews by setting up its bureaucracies to "other" Jews. In the same way the US Federal government is setting up its police State to other Conservatives, Christians and Republicans.

I have read accounts of 1930s Germany. Many Jews saw the terror coming but believed their best option for survival was to keep their heads down, endure and be quiet. About 5.8 million were murdered by the German Nazis.

In the US 74 million of us are vulnerable until we stand, armed, and say no more.

However, comparing them to the pre-war Germany may not be accurate, IMO. I view them more as useful idiots, useful until they are no longer useful, who will then just be idiots to be disposed of by the state. The state abhors anarchy almost as much as it does an organized conservative right. The government (The State) would love nothing better than the alt-right and far left in a battle to the death, while they sit back, consolidate power, and crush what is left of whoever "wins".

If and when a "charismatic" leader emerges from within the far left, that is the time to watch and see if the state takes the threat seriously or waits until it is too late, as Germany did. Ironically, a charismatic leader has emerged on the populist right, and The State reacted with all the venom of a 3 meter cobra. I expect the state to maintain their status quo and attack the far left as much as they have attacked the far right.

The State protects itself, above all else. That should scare everyone not directly connected to The State.

As with the fall of any Empire, factions on all sides of the political spectrum will be fighting over the scraps. Who wins that battle will determine what kind of oppressive government replaces the oppressive government we now have.
