And when an adversary escalates, I do not ever--ever!--wish to back down.

I think that became Putin's principle as well once Obama orchestrated a regime change and coup in Russia's neighbor and ally, Ukraine in 2014, effectively nullifying the diplomacy that Putin had accomplished, the diplomacy that ensured his access to Crimean ports.

Flying a surveillance platform in a zone where it can and will identify and geolocate targets for the Ukrainians to attack is the provocative act.

No ifs ands or buts.

Did you ever serve in the military? No war has ever been won without surveillance of the enemy. The Ukrainians aren't capable of doing it themselves so we do it for them.

Its also true that in the 20th century no one won a war without air superiority. And at the moment neither side has it.

I stated the most probable mission for that drone in that part of the world at this time. Years as a US Air Force officer with experience in space based and air breathing ISR/ISTAR platforms and missions tells me that at this time there is no other answer to consider.

If you can even conceive of a different purpose of that drone at that place at that time.... let's hear it.

Nah totally on the wrong track. When you are referring to is Armageddon, which occurs 26 years after the Apocalypse, the war of Gog and Magog. Iran has not joined in afaik.
