Is Ayn Rand a capitalist or a philosopher? Her philosophy of Objectivism can only lead to capitalism. Both capitalism and Objectivism is based on "rational self interest" Capitalism cannot be based on altruism and no altruistic motivation can be found in Objectivism.

Given that Ferengi philosophy is closely aligned with Objectivism I say Quark could be and actually is both

A philosophy that is "detached" is meaningless. To have value any philosophy must be relatable to the real world

Good Point!!!!! Austrian Economics is also based on "rational self-interest" and human action. One of the big wigs on Austrian Economics was Murry Rothbard a libertarian and economist was a close and personal friend on Ayn Rand although eventually they did have a minor falling out.

As a Ferengi philosopher and capitalist I'm a student of "objectivism" and Austrian Economics.

It's the philosopher, not the philosophy, that must be detached.

I'm not sure I understand that.

No on second thought I know for a fact I don't understand that.

It was @Physics Hunter that made the statement earlier in this thread. I immediately agreed with it, but I'm not sure that I'm qualified to answer your question. I will anyway because that's how I roll.

The philosopher must detach from 'the world' or outside influences. That's the best that I can do.
