It was @Physics Hunter that made the statement earlier in this thread. I immediately agreed with it, but I'm not sure that I'm qualified to answer your question. I will anyway because that's how I roll.

The philosopher must detach from 'the world' or outside influences. That's the best that I can do.

A philosophy that is "detached" is meaningless. To have value any philosophy must be relatable to the real world

By detached, in this case I mean able to truly reflect on an issue without some attachment to make or prove it right or good.

I am an ardent capitalist, but Capitalism could be criticized as Churchill criticized representative democracy: Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.

Capitalism can exacerbate greed, self interest, and cheating. However, the inherent tradeoff in capitalism is that if those traits exist, as they provably do, then a level capitalist playing field holds those ills at arms length and allows the honest, hardworking, and charitable man to compete with those that are not.

While some Ferengi might be driven by greed only not all Ferengi are. As one poster pointed out with Ayn Rand's philosophy of "Objectivism" Ferengi practice "rational self-interest" NOT so-called altruism. As Rule#106 says, "There is no honor in poverty."
