Republicans are not slashing either Social Security or Medicare

Democrats stand on the house floor and daily lie about cuts to medicare and social security.
They are flat out lying. But the media allows those lies to stand.

    Why?

Watch this congressman challenge this and he was on the committee that would do this if done.

This is pure demagoguery by the Democrats.

In all fairness, it should probably be acknowledged that 66 percent (about two-thirds) of the federal budget goes for either defense; Social Security; Medicare; Medicaid; or interest on the national debt.

Still, the Democrats are not being at all honest here, as concerning just what the Republicans have said. (They apparently wish to portray Republicans as mean people, who are eager to push granny over a cliff...)

He's a good orator. I only watched about the first five minutes, but he's spot on. The GOP always gets, cuts to the programs for the elderly, pinned on them irrationally. It's the same with Democrats and grabbing guns. Neither one is true, yet we're constantly subjected to the false rhetoric. Lucky us.

Thats true about federal spending, but there is a huge financial tail paid by the states due to the executive branch regulatory agencies (EPS, IRS, OSHA, HUD, Dept of Education, etc). They all create regulations and pass them to states as unfunded mandates. Eliminating the regulatory agencies won't make much of a dent in federal budget but it will cut a tremendous amount of spending at the state level.

I think social security should be phased out, the federal govt should not be in the retirement business. Phase ss out - People under 40 should not receive social security, they have plenty of time to build tehir own retirement plan. People over 55 should get social security because its too late for them to build an independent retirement program without ss. People between 40 and 55 will be means tested, those that do not need ss won't get it. Everyone pays in but the ss tax will decrease and over time will go to zero.
Matthew 22:36-40 What is the greatest commandment?
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.

Imagine, if instead of the Ukraine that money was put back into SS. Or the 1.6 trillion stimulus that both parties passed.

I can't understand how someone calls themselves Christian yet votes for the party of abortion and now child mutilation. But I know many who won't vote anything other than democrat and it pisses them off when I tell them. They usually come back with "judge not les you be judged." I say fine, judge me using the same criteria I use, won't bother me in the least. But not surprisingly they prefer to lie.

WHY!?! Because the "Media" is nothing more than the Propaganda Commissariat of the Democrat Party... DUH!

I think it is a mistake--a huge mistake!--to rely upon Social Security as the principal means (let alone the sole means) of income during retirement.

Some people still have pension plans (although this is becoming less common; nowadays, it is mostly the public sector that has these).

Of course, there are annuities (I have several of these).

There are IRAs (I have one of these).

There are 401(k)s (or its government equivalent, the Thrift plan).

    There are SEPs.

And there is, of course, private savings.

And this is far from an exhaustive list of the mechanisms available for savings.

Only if one considers saving to be a mere afterthought--something that one might consider only if everything else is well taken care of--might it be insufficiently funded.

But if one follows the Pay Yourself First method--thereby putting a certain portion of one's income into savings before paying the bills, purchasing food, or anything else--one will always have a well-funded savings account.

This may cause the portion typically allocated to recreation to suffer. But so what?
