Name one professional or college team in any sport that has had increased turnover in their starting line-ups and team rosters. Name one Marathon or OCR event that has had
reduced participation or had to be cancelled due to lack of entrants.

The article is 13 Nov 2021. It sites several research studies that all show the collapsing athlete phenomenon is rare:

"....the National Center for the Study of Catastrophic Sports Injuries in the United States (NCCSIR) noted that for 36 years, from 1982 to 2017, there were 862 non-traumatic catastrophic injuries among U.S. college athletes, of which 44 were fatal." (this is USA college athlete only, about 1 death per year)

"...the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Texas, 54 cases of sudden cardiac death among young soccer players were identified over the course of 13 years between 2000 and 2013." (about 4 per year)

"...between 2001 and 2020, there were an average of 4.2 deaths per year attributable to sudden cardiac death (SCD) or sudden unexplained death (SUD).....This figure is confirmed by previous data and longitudinal studies, which also indicate that the risk of sudden cardiac mortality (SCD) and unexplained death (SUD) among FIFA players is about 4-6 cases per year. "

And then this year, sudden deaths in FIFA increase 400%: Still rare, but a significant jump. Given the money involved in FIFA and players, there is a lot of interest in finding the cause.

"...in 2021 (until mid-November 2021), ....21 cases of SCD/SUD were found among FIFA players."

Coincidence that this jump occurs the year the vax is mandated to FIFA players (2021)? Maybe.

But what else happened in 2020/2021 that could effect players all around the world?

@Traddles Here is your response from another thread to my post providing facts on sudden athlete deaths.

As for your thread diversion attempt, as the old saying goes, statistics don't lie, but liars use - and misrepresent/manipulate - statistics. And that is what anti-Covid-vaxxers are doing.

So I look at what cannot be manipulated, pro team starting line-ups and rosters, participants in events such as the Boston Marathon and Western States 100 (whose participants must have age-adjusted qualifying finish times in qualifying events) and other marathons that have to limit participants numbers, participation numbers in SF Bay Area events (runners and volunteers) where I also know frequent runners and/or volunteers.

* Leagues are operating without unusual starter or roster turnover;

* The Boston Marathon still has to turn away people with qualifying times that barely met the standard;

* Western States still has plenty of qualifiers;

* There are plenty of 100-mile endurance events at which people can qualify for Western States;

* SF Bay Area running event organizing companies and one-off indie charity events are having pre-Covid level runner participation and volunteer participation;

* Not one running community person I know has died, of Covid or "suddenly".

Obviously you did not read the article.

The article is not statistics, it is verifiable sudden deaths of athletes.

It states that SCD/SUD is rare. It actually agrees with you. It actually proves part of your arguement.

Then it clearly shows that the number of SCD/SUD in FIFA went from 4-6 per year from 2001-2020 to 21 in 2021. Still on the rare side but a relevant increase. And FIFA cares because a single player costs $$millions and the loss of a player can mean lost games and again $$millions lost.

What is revealing now is not that sudden athlete death has increased, but the revelation that you do not read posts or scientific studies. Your bias drives your opinion. This is proven because this study (and I state it in my original post) actually agrees with you.

Sudden athlete death does not appear to be common and so you don't see it in everyday life, it won't cause a noticeable impact in your race attendance. SUD lurks behind the scenes, its not in your face obvious. That does not mean it has not increased significantly, and the timing of the increase is very significant. Its a leading indicator that something significant is occurring.
