It was better when we had those jobs. Factories needed bodies. They didn't care if the bodies were white, or black, or polka dot. We were all equal. Under a weld hood, color was irrelevant. These were good, union, high wage jobs. And workers were able to buy new vehicles rolling off the assembly line of that car plant in Kenosha.

I remember the days where some of those skilled workers were getting new cars every two years. Relatively speaking, cars were cheap. And new cars every two years meant there were plenty of great, low mileage used cars running around. None of the 6 years loan payoff stuff, with used cars having over 150K miles on them. Cars didn't last much more than 100K, but that was alright. They were still good value. Some of the new cars going for over $100K now?? Seriously?? Who the hell can afford that??

And you could fix those cars. And when the oil usage got too bad, junkyards had used engines for reasonable prices. And you could swap out that 283 for a 327, or with some skill, even a 396! Kids learned skills working on those things. Kids learned to read Chilton manuals. Friends were needed for two man jobs.

And none of us were married to any electronic devices. Now it is slaves to the machines.

And those bars cashed paychecks! There were wives who never knew how much hubby made. When the company made direct deposit mandatory, there was a rebellion. All the sudden, no more hiding money from the women. And all the corner bars disappeared.

AND the MIGHTY ROACH COACHES in the parking lot. Never worked inside much could not stand being cooped up most of my jobs in factories were textile mills under the tables with the legs and tickle points. MMM some of those tables were hot as the sun.

I did work as an EMT for about five years and had to go out and look at the sun sometimes.

The outsourcing of America was the greatest mistake ever made, especially the parts for anything that we need for any part of our security.

The selling of land in this country to any noncitizen is also a mistake we should never have started.

A foreign citizen, corporation or any type of entity should have to lease with an option to terminate for cause at anytime.

PS.my wifes cousin has two later model Javelins like the Alabama State Troopers used as pursuit vehicles before the Mustangs, they topped out about 140 with the 400 in them. Just not enough to catch the long leggers that would turn 7500 in high with a 2:73 and 29" tires.

I think I told this one before. As a young lad of 19 in '76, I started as a welders apprentice in the shipyards of Newport News. I was single living on my own with my feet in the wind. My mentor, Mr. Britton was an old guy, a couple of years from retirement. Anyway, at noon we'd walk through the gates and straight across the street to a pub. I'd order a burger and fries and the old man would slam a six pack of Strohs. He smoked those non filtered Lucky Strikes.Ahh, the good old days. Wasn't no such thing as a drug test back then.Me and the brothers would fire up a doob and weld like idiots until the whistle blew at the end of the day.....How come you don't know you were in the good ol days until there gone?

I never liked the AMC cars, I heard to save money they all used the same frame but had different body styles made to fit the frame. One of the problems with the "bubble car" (Pacer) was that they had to cram the motor in, causing repair costs to be through the roof as mechanics had to remove a good part of it just to do a tune up.
FYI I dont get notifications anymore for some reason, if I dont respond it's because I didn't know, I have to use the "thanks" I'm still getting and scan a few pages to see if anyone responded but if it's 10-12 pages I dont.

What a great concept! I'm about tired of being told "I know you have more money than you're telling me, I know you have a secret bank account you're not telling me about", I think I might just do that so I can have money when I need it, not when she "needs" it for her latest sparly twinkly item she can't do without and cant wait on for even 5 minutes, she "NEEDS" it, 5 minutes AGO.

Are we still talking about the same 33 year old woman or are you talking in a general sense?
