@UKSmartypants, all these theories presuppose one could observe first hand, which isn't possible, It's generally understood entering a black hole would be a death sentence. So my question is, are black holes to be avoided or can they be used for some purpose? I don't see any way to harness energy, and the worm hole thing, again, not survivable or controllable. Sounds like fantasy anyway.

Thats not strictly true. The larger a black hole is, the gentler the gravitational well. So in a sufficiently large enough black hole, you wouldn't notice the gravity. its only smaller ones ie smaller than about half a billion solar masses that are dangerous

How big a black hole?

Well if you add up all the matter in the Universe, it Schwarzchild radius, the radius at which a given mass forms an event horizon, is almost exactly the same as the size of the observable universe.

So its perfectly feasible the Universe is itself a black hole. We wouldnt know, being inside.


You can harness the energy in a black hole in theory. General relativity says rotating black holes have enormous amounts of energy available to be tapped. Black holes are commonly surrounded by a hot 'soup' of plasma particles that carry a magnetic field, when magnetic field lines disconnect and reconnect, in just the right way, they can accelerate plasma particles to negative energies and large amounts of black hole energy can be extracted.

Forget wormholes , its nonsense. If every black hole has a wormhole it must also have a white hole where the matter and energy pour out, the exact opposite of a black hole. We know there are millions of black holes all over the universe. So there ought to be an equal number of white holes. You wont be able to miss a white holes, they would look like a permanent gigantic supernovae explosions pouring massive amounts of matter, light, gamma rays, xrays and other radiation out in a tusnami into the surrounding space, for hundreds of light years all round, and not to mention the weird negative gravity it would have. No one has ever observed such an object. Ever.
