Adding another 3,000 plus miles to the routes of the ships coming and going to and from the pacific would also add an enormous cost in freight charges.

The port infrastructure, rail and highway infrastructure doesn't exist to just pick up and move all that freight from the west coast to the Atlantic and gulf ports.

If that capacity existed and would not increase costs exponentially for the extra 3000 plus miles going around South America they would have shifted that freight to the Atlantic ports instead of having it all backed up off the west coast ports for months during the whole supply chain blow up.
A sizable percentage of goods travel up to 3000 miles by truck or train or both. Cost per mile, truck, then train, then ship.

There is no port or combination of ports nor the highway, rail, or port infrastructure to handle over 20,000,000 additional containers arriving at Atlantic or Gulf Cost Ports.

It would take a decade or more and countless billions of dollars not to mention the additional cost of running those big container ships an additional 6,000-10,000-15,000 miles per each adding 21-38 transit days at a cost of over 200,000 per day for each ship.

It simply isn't possible without collapsing the US economy which is why there are solid grounds to stop this stupidity with an injunction in the Federal Courts.
