No America has NO treaty with Taiwan for defense at all and Carter way back in 1979 signed into law formalizing relations with China and severing diplomatic ties with Taiwan:

America has no grounds to do that since China isn't violating any agreements it was America who actually made the violation with a "diplomatic" visit by Pelosi which is illegal according to Congressional law passed by near unanimous vote in December 1978.
