A couple of decades ago? Forty years ago the police department where I worked was hiring people who grew up without a man in the family.


A woman is just as prepared to teach a boy how to be a man as a man is to teach a girl how to be a woman.


I know I'm strange. A woman where I worked said, "You don't like women, do you?"


"No, I don't. I don't like men, either."
She sneered and said, "Then who do you like?"
"People. But when they're acting like men or acting like women they're a pain in the ass."


It took me a while to realize that the same thing applied to other ways people divide themselves. Christians and Muslims, Black/Brown and White, gay and straight, whatever and whatever.
