How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual… as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of. — Representative Suzanna Gratia Hupp (TX)

It is actually the police chief of the town, not the school district as the title in the op suggests.

Either way, knowing government he will most likely still be collecting his check.

There is definitely some confusion over this. I think that it's moot, once the following is recognized.

    According to this source...
    School District | K12 Academics
School districts are local governments with powers similar to that of a town or a county
    It's a local government jurisdiction.

It takes time to fire someone working for gov't because of all the protections in place.

If the man had any character at all he'd resign as Chief and from the council and leave the county.

Being on the city council in a small town isn't a full time gig by any means. In Uvalde the council members don't even draw a salary, just a small stipend to pay for meals and gas etc.

They have found a way to at least get him off of the City Council and hopefully his job with the School District will soon be terminated as well.

The School District is a distinctly separate governmental entity from the city. He could not legally serve as City Police Chief and be on the council at the same time. It is illegal in Texas for city employees to also hold an elected city office such as Mayor or Council Member.
