    Magnesium Citrate used to be used in very large amounts for colonoscopy preparation. They have since dialed it back because of potential organ damage.

    As a supplement in the right amounts, it's probably a good thing.

    I developed a serious vertigo problem recently, and the attacks came without warning, throwing me to the floor almost instantly. Went the emergency room, MRI scanned, then CT scan, then given meclizine, an antibiotic for an ear infection, and sent home to wait for the specialist's earliest appointment, which was a month away, still having the attacks which were increasing to every day.

    Read up on possible causes, and found out that calcium crystals floating around can enter the inner ear and cause serious balance problems, so I started taking a 400 mg pill of magnesium. My attacks went away entirely, except for an occasional very light 'buzz' once or twice a day, so I take another one then and it goes away as well. OF course, the doctors nor his PAs can bother to tell patients they might try that, probably because of the way the frigging low life lawyers have screwed up the country beyond repair.

    I should add that magnesium is key to your body absorbing calcium well.

    400 mg is probably the max, and even that might give some people the runs. Some foods of course are high in magnesium.

    There are plenty of salts of magnesium that don't give you the jet-propelled runs like citrate of magnesium.

    My doctor prescribed magnesium oxide. I also take magnesium citrate in smaller doses. I also have a magnesium salve that I put on my feet if my legs feel jittery (which is rare). Magnesium salve is calming for young children too.
