Can you explain the flavor of Alligator?

I was born and raised in South Florida and have eaten .. or tried to have eaten gator many times over the years.

Gator is Nasty tasting!
It taste exactly like the swamps that it came from!
The only way I have found to make the meat halfway acceptable is to drown it in bbq sauce and even then .. it's iffy!

Well, I do not live in Gator country so I shall pass on ever eating it. When I was in Florida and visited a Gator exhibit, it did not make me think of eating those ugly things. I visited where dudes get on the backs of Alligators to hold them down and following that was on an Air boat to see them in the Swamp.

That was a big no-no in Florida not that long ago, as gators were considered endangered.
Now it's not uncommon to wake up to a 10 footer in your swimming pool, they're so ubiquitous.

I posted after my question that I found out what Hush Puppies are. I have had a lot of Corn Bread in my 83 years but never fried corn bread chunks in I suppose lard. Lard has made a come back I read and it is now found to be nutritious.

I remember once an ex's of mine's brother who was an engineer was doing observational dive assessments on a hydro dam in Missouri or somewhere. He said that as they were inspecting the inlet area they encountered catfish that just hovered in the caged area and feasted on a never ending stream of food the current brought them.
You wouldn't like them though. He said they were 12 feet long! Scariest thing he'd ever seen, he said.
