A relationship of fear is never an ideal situation, whether it's the government who fear the people, the people who fear the government, or both. The ideal is that the government wants the people to be happy and the people want government officials to be happy. Generally a far cry from reality, but that I feel that this is what we should be striving for. Democratic elections is a step in the right direction as it lets adults vote for who they'd like to represent them. This is why rooting out flaws in our election systems is so important.
