I no longer see anyone's avatars.

Click "show postbits" in the lower left corner of any post. It's near the thanks button and the report button. (the report button is a black triangle)

About once a year I lose my general settings. I just go to general settings and check the boxes for show avatars and show signature.

It's easy to hit the "Hide Postbits" icon accidently when thanking someone which kills the avatars. I think that's what Trinnity was saying.

That is not it in my case. There are three check boxes in general settings. I always lose the first two, they become unchecked. I just go back into general settings and recheck them.
