Rolling Stone's top 500 song list goes woke with latest update

And the new #1 is "Respect" by that talentless caterwauler Urethra Franklin.

Most of these songs aren't any good and are only popular because of their lyrics/message, not their musical composition.

Who even gives a crap about Rolling Stone nowadays anyhow?

NUMBER ONE - 2004 AND 2021: Aretha Franklin’s ‘Respect’ came in at number one – moving up four places – toppling Bob Dylan’s ‘Like a Rolling Stone,’ which moved from first to fourth

NUMBER TWO - 2004 and 2021: Public Enemy’s activist anthem ‘Fight the Power’ made its debut on the list at number two and ousted The Rolling Stones' hit '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction,' which took a steep drop to 31

NUMBER THREE - 2004 and 2021: Soul musician Sam Cooke moved from number 12 to number three with ‘A Change is Gonna Come,’ bumping John Lennon's 'Imagine' to 19

    Exactly

Stop the vaccine mandates. Use facts about constitutional freedoms. The 1905 SCOTUS ruling is obsolete. New technologies can provide for public safety AND protect the constitutional freedoms of those who refuse the vax. Use of easily disproven fearmongering antivax porn will kill our chances to stop the mandates.

No one, but no one needs Trolling Stone Magazine to know what THE #1 Rock Song of all time is: Stairway to Heaven.
Al Swearengen: What's your partner so mad about all the time?
    Sol Star: He's not mad.
Al Swearengen: He's got a mean way of being happy.

I'm not too keen on either list.

(But, I'm probably not high enough. Besides, how can I trust this? Trolling Stones prints fiction, not fact.....)

At 62 it is time to quit looking at those lists. What they call music these days ...

Maybe #1 in a lot of places, but in the south it's Sweet Home/Freebird......

It's going to be hilarious to watch when the quadruple vaxxers start pissing on the double and triple vaxxers...

    I am eclectic.
I have paid to get into 249 concerts. I worked 70 large shows(i.e. US Festival, CalJam I & II, etc.) and worked for 11 international signed acts, as well as a handful of promoters and several venues. I cannot name my favorite songs. I guess first and foremost, I am a Pink Floyd Fan. I like British Rock, but also love Aerosmith, BTO, Bad Company, Black Oak Arkansas, Grand Funk, Undisputed Truth, Rick Wakeman, etc, etc., and so on.
I am a big fan of Jethro Tull, Jose Feliciano, Emerson Lake and Palmer(Powell), The Who, ELO, Chet Atkins, Fleetwood Mac, Chili Peppers, Elton John, ad infinitum.
The "best song" is like the "best basketball player". I can counter with someone else, for every one you say.

    BLEH!

Good enough song (I even lived in Alabama, when that song first came out!).

But, I'll go with Stairway to Heaven. The only problem with it, is that I have heard it so much, it is almost boring. (Along with almost every other Zep song!)

I'm a lyrics fan. From Jim Stafford or weird Al to guys like Billy Joel or Garth Brooks, Meatloaf. Even Paul Thorn. It can be funny, a tear jerker or something deep yet simple like that Kenny Rogers song about the kid throwing the ball up anf trying to hit it.
I've never heard anyone put down Franklin and thing that's a great song with a resonating message for young women.

Having said that I certainly would not rank it number one. I don't even know how you could go about such a ranking but for me some message music would be near the top. Blowing in the Wind for example and right now Eric Church's "the snake" is pretty damned good.
