Ours may become the first civilization destroyed, not by the power of our enemies, but by the ignorance of our teachers and the dangerous nonsense they are teaching... -Thomas Sowell

I never called you a VAXhole. You ASSumed that I did. Your self-ASSumed guilt is your problem and not mine.

Archery was good, those Koreans know how to put the cat with a bow. I wanted to catch the fencing but so far I've missed it.
Slight digression but I read Mensur is still practiced in German fraternities to this day which I find a little surprising. I just assumed it died out in the middle of the 20th-century. I'd be even more surprised if they're still nicking at faces with the blade.
Although once, I was an avid fan of the Olympics, I have not watched one shot of this years games.
For a variety of reasons:
#1. Hard for me to pull for some athletes, who hate my nation, even as they are representing my nation. On TAXPAYER dollars.
#2. When it comes to women's sports...too many men involved. ALTHOUGH!!!! I would just love to see a "female, with a pecker," compete in WOMEN's Gymnastics. OR, maybe, even Figure Skating in the Winter Olympics. Maybe when they get time away from Soccer, Weight Lifting, and other such sports where Transgens are absolutely, in no way, different than a woman who was born a woman (I know, I know...this is very hateful and hurtful of me. And my buddy, Mr. Reality...)
#3. IT used to be that ALL the athletes were PROUD of the nations they represented. I only see that from the Chinese, Russians, and other Authoritarian countries. Everyone else wants to protest this or that.
#4. Too many PROFESSIONALS in the games, these days. In my opinion, a PRO Basketball player should not be allowed to play BASKEETBALL for ANY nation, in the Olympics. Although, it would be fine, if he or she were in a track event, or, playing in ANOTHER sport. But, it is ridiculous that an NBA, all star team takes the court against other nations (And STILL manages to somehow lose, but, that's another rant...)"
#5. Sports "reporters" have become a bane to the sports they report and call. Again. They can seldom leave politics out of it, and, even if they do, it seems that they know more about pop-culture references, than they do about the sports they are reporting or calling.

Nothing interests me about the Olympics anymore. The left has managed to suck all the joy out of sports for me.

#6. Simon Biles, and the US Women's Gymnastics are out. (seriously, she was one of the few bright lights I saw in this years events)_
#7. The rank COWARDICE of so many "athletes:"

Although, I DO understand. Unlike how they "fight" wars, these cowards would have to meet another trained combatant, not a bunch of innocent civilians.
(They should have just donned a Burka, and declared that they "identify" as women....)"

Biles decided that representing the US wasn't good enough... that somehow the US world of athletics was racist. So she declared herself a BLM supporter. And- in my opinion - the added stress of trying to represent a nation that she claims is racist was too much for her. She should have stuck to athletics instead of activism.

I have zero interest in the Olympics but I am intrigued by the apparent lack of patriotism of some US athletes.
I also agree that there should be no place for professional athletes.
Perversely I hope to see a female weightlifter with meat and 2 veg.win a gold medal,or at least the photos which follow.
I would like to research more, and maybe I will, but I don't think that the Olympics have ever been about sports.
The Ancient Greek Games might have been marked by city-state rivalries. I know that de Coubertin, founder of the modern Games, had glowing ideals in mind about uniting the world through sport or some rot. Maybe the early 20th century Olympucs succeeded, but 16 years after Athens 1896, Europe was at war, and that conflict had been simmering for most of the 19th century.
The Olympics has been politicized as long as I've been alive. I think the first time I knew that there was a Cold War was while watching the Olympics in 1984 and hearing TV commentators talk about why the Soviet Union wasn't participating.
By 1988 I was finally old enough to be politically aware of the situation, figured out why there were two German teams, and realized that the Olympics transcended sports.
