You know that two year backlog on semiconductors?

Most of them are made in Taiwan.

But don't underestimate the hand that Taiwan (AKA, REPUBLIC OF CHINA, ROC) can play. You see, China could defeat Taiwan in a Chinese minute but China wants Taiwan intact. They want the industries and they want the hearts and minds of the people. China does not want a smouldering pile of rubble.

So what will Taiwan do when Biden goes limp? Threaten a poison pill? Maybe. In any case, this isn't just about who can defeat who.
That collectivist “we” sticks in my craw. Those most likely to use it are least likely to have any skin in the game.

    "We" is "collectivist"?

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, ....."

That sticks in your craw? Good lord, dude!

What a weird take on a common word!

This is nothing new. Carriers were predicted to become obsolete in modern warfare between two large powers many decades ago.

Realistically, the US is probably going to have to prepare airstrips on Taiwan. The ability to actually send supplies to Taiwan in the event of a full war would be difficult.

Submarine technology might come into play.

Carriers have had thier day, just as Battleships were done by the 1916 Battle of Jutland.

Big slow grey target, which are perfect for missile strikes. As demonstrated in the Falklands war and HMS Sheffield, taken out by an Exocet.

Todays missiles are faster, smarter and more powerful. Plus the future now is in swarm technology, directed energy weapons, drones. And ofc, cyber warfare. Why bother physically attacking a base or ship when you can hack its ethernet or wifi and plant a worm or virus.

China is totalitarian. But Taiwan has such great fear of the enemy within that their internal surveillance of citizens is not much different.

Mainland is just sword rattling. Their military leaders likely get points on their annual evaluations for scaring the shit out of the Taiwanese.

And then.. I made some friends awhile back with some Taiwan air force officers . I dont keep in touch but still... I hate to think of their fate if the mainland takes ovet.
Not going to be a Vietnam experience at all. Vietnam was a proxy war with China. This will be the real thing.
    For all the marbles.
