China is building the largest military mobilization in history in preparation for taking Taiwan. Indications are that the Chinese believe if they sink an aircraft carrier that will stop all further action against them.

Once having secured Chinese Taipei they can move onto Hawaii.

Everyone misses the very real possibility of a popular revolution that won't be wiped out as in Tiananmen Square.

    People also forget that:

    A. The Russian-Chinese relationship is NOT as 'cozy' as everyone thinks.
    B. Japan. Yes, "just a small island nation,'" but...in recent years they have really built up their SUB fleet. Their aircraft can seal off certain shipping lanes. And, as we should know...the Japanese are no "pushovers...."
    C. India. We always forget about India, when THAT is the nation (other than Taiwan...) that China is most likely to get into conflict with. While China holds "the better hand," India could easily mess up a LOT of their shipping, as they would have to either go through Indonesia (Tight area, very good for coordinated attacks, both naval and air...), or, go near Australia, speaking of which:
    D. Australia.

While none of these nations could go against China, alone, that would be a very UNlikely scenario. Far more likely, is that China starts something, and the whole region unites against them. In that situation, China would need a massive Navy, just to ship its goods, which would go...where, exactly?

It would be imperative that China have at least a handful of REAL allies (who could actually DO something...aka Russia, NOT the likes of Iran, or Pakistan, etc.), before they go on any military adventures. Without these allies, the Dragon would be cut off from the world. Still very dangerous, but, effectively stuck on it's mainland.

Do we defend democracies against totalitarianism or not? That is the question.

I think the current administration will answer "yes" but will act otherwise. And China knows it.

But don't underestimate the hand that Taiwan (AKA, REPUBLIC OF CHINA, ROC) can play. You see, China could defeat Taiwan in a Chinese minute but China wants Taiwan intact. They want the industries and they want the hearts and minds of the people. China does not want a smouldering pile of rubble.

So what will Taiwan do when Biden goes limp? Threaten a poison pill? Maybe. In any case, this isn't just about who can defeat who.

Ooooh. That would be cool. "Another nation rejects communism". American leftists in MSM would contort themselves like pretzels to spin that.

Personally, I have mixed feelings. The debate inside of me goes something like this:

I dont want to leave Taiwan hanging out to dry but we really do have to get the commies out of our own government first. And is this not just a naval version of our Vietnam experience?

China is totalitarian. But Taiwan has such great fear of the enemy within that their internal surveillance of citizens is not much different.

Mainland is just sword rattling. Their military leaders likely get points on their annual evaluations for scaring the shit out of the Taiwanese.

And then.. I made some friends awhile back with some Taiwan air force officers . I dont keep in touch but still... I hate to think of their fate if the mainland takes ovet.
