Depends on how they were deleted, and how they were recovered. If they just deleted the files the way one ordinarily does on one's computer, the files will still be present and should be provably intact, because "deleting" a file the "normal" way just involves removing a pointer in a table that points to the location of the start of the file on the disk, but doesn't involve doing any actual damage to the underlying data or the structure of that data (it just leaves the disk space available for a subsequent overwrite).

That's a darned good question. I don't know if it's possible to pinpoint the date but I'd have to guess they could figure it out.

From what I understand these computer/fraud experts describe data manipulation as a messy crime scene. When they try to go back and cover up their crime it is ten times messier.

If true then how do the auditors prove anything? A break in custody does not necessarily mean that there was a fraudulent result although it could. I still want to hear what was in the cases pulled out late at night. They know who did it, did they bother asking?

Sadly you are correct, in my opinion. If they say that there was not massive fraud, we won't be happy nor believe them. If they say there was massive fraud then they still won't do anything, because it is too late, and we will be crying about it for quite some time.
