The end of the Republic will be due to the massive spending.
“I agree to this Constitution with all its faults, if they are such: because I think a General Government necessary for us, and there is no Form of Government but what may be a Blessing to the People if well-administred; and I believe farther that this is likely to be well administred for a Course of Years and can only end in Despotism as other Forms have done before it, when the People shall become so corrupted as to need Despotic Government, being incapable of any other.”

    Benjamin Franklin

This is why the Left has been at war with morality since day one. The end of morality will be the beginning of despotism.

    The short answer is twofold.

--First, it's not a republic; not anymore.

--Second, we will not keep what we had. It's mostly destroyed; being eaten at, daily; and is on the verge of collapse. Both the immoral, tyrannical Elites and the amoral, ignorant, grasping citizenry are to blame for it.

Since much of the nation has abandoned God....... Morality has been on the decline ushering in Societal Decay

This societal decay will contribute greatly to our demise ......

    Indeed.

Also, the importation of tens of millions of illegals (non-citizens) by the Democrats has contributed.

It appears that they believe that sex with a 10 year old is the norm.

They will soon be given amnesty by Biden and will vote.

They have no concept of the sacrifice of untold numbers of American men and women who have fought for the freedoms that we once enjoyed.

The problem I have with the supposed quote is that if the founding fathers knew this, they would have built in a countermeasure to prevent the "end of the republic".

I certainly agree that it may be a true saying but id like to attribute it correctly to whoever actually said it.
I believe the countermeasures are there. The problem is that we no longer follow the Constitution and many of our leaders feel it is outdated and just wrong for us today. Countermeasures mean nothing if they are dismissed and that is what we have done.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”

    John Philpot Curran

Sometimes wrongfully attributed to Thomas Jefferson. Curran said it first.

We have not been eternally vigilant.

Unfortunately no, but I can show you this quote from Madison about the General Welfare Clause that he wrote himself.

“If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare, and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare, they may take the care of religion into their own hands; they may appoint teachers in every State, county and parish and pay them out of their public treasury; they may take into their own hands the education of children, establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision of the poor; they may undertake the regulation of all roads other than post-roads; in short, every thing, from the highest object of state legislation down to the most minute object of police, would be thrown under the power of Congress... Were the power of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for, it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature of the limited Government established by the people of America.”

    ~ James Madison

After all, the General Welfare clause is the clause used to justify limitless tax payer spending.

I reckon Madison and the Founders figured that since they spelled things out, that is, to let us know that the General Welfare clause was not meant to be used in such a way, that it would prevent it from being used in such a way.

    But they were wrong.
