Does freedom contain the seeds for our downfall?

I ask because we allow everything, to the point where we get conquered from within.

Here's an example: Because I'm interested in health, I can't help but notice that 2/3 of our population are overweight. (about 35% are obese).

And absolutely no one is to blame, it's just a natural result of free market capitalism.

And I believe that fact inevitably leads to a weaker country and universal healthcare as healthcare costs rise.

Do you see how one thing leads to another? Connect the dots.

And because the U.S. is a free country, socialism is allowed to flourish and some politicians admit it openly.

Who determined what "obese" is ? A dictionary ,an athlete , a nosey neighbor ,a divorced ex ? There are smokers and alcoholics that live past the median age and there are people that come down with cancer that never indulged .
How did all those Coke Cans get the tabs pulled open ?

There are about 3,200,000 federal employees.

Drop the "3" in the front, now we can start to talk.

Remember Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes exhausts and murders itself. There never was a Democracy Yet, that did not commit suicide. It is in vain to Say that Democracy is less vain, less proud, less selfish, less ambitious or less avaricious than Aristocracy or Monarchy. It is not true in Fact and no where appears in history. Those Passions are the same in all Men under all forms of Simple Government, and when unchecked, produce the same Effects of Fraud Violence and Cruelty. When clear Prospects are opened before Vanity, Pride, Avarice or Ambition, for their easy gratification, it is hard for the most considerate Phylosophers and the most conscientious Moralists to resist the temptation. Individuals have conquered themselves, Nations and large Bodies of Men, never.

From John Adams to John Taylor, 17 December 1814

For the U.S., it was over in 1861. Time to move on; it is going to get a a lot worse in the near future. The 'middle class' screwed its own pooch irreparably in the 1970's.

Perpetuation of freedom depends on a moral people. The most effective way to undermine a free society is to promote aberrations in the name of freedom. It's Man's nature to exploit freedom for gratification. The more a populace exploits freedom the more the government, established to insure order and prevent chaos in that society, will intrude. A Godly society will have fewer laws and regulations than a less moral one. The paradox of a free society is that the more freedom it has the greater potential exists for abuse of that freedom.

To paraphrase De Tocqueville: When America is no longer good, America will no longer be great. Study the democrat party and you'll understand.

    I'd put it this way:

Freedom doesn't lead to demise but taking freedom for granted does. Free market capitalism is involved up to it's ass in selling addictive products like alcohol, foods developed to stimulate their own taking and of course the national shame that is the tobacco industry.
But part of that and what has happened with HFS , food subsidies and the centralization of food production has a great deal to do with corruption. Like the "Death Pyramaid " put out by the FDA for years based upon grain consumption levels humans were never built to eat. There is little doubt that a localist food economy would provide a better product even if it was slightly less effieicent. Instead of food subsidies , HFS and making 1,000 units of bad food in 8 hours then hitting the gym for two we could work for 10 make good food and maybe not need the gym because of some physicality in the jobs. But the free market could sell that sans corruption.

Corruption exist in all political systems and while it sure as hell doesn't feel like it right now our brand is among the best ways to limit coruption. Imagine how horrible at limiting corruption the other systems must be!

The Founders told us what our responsibility was " The price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance" But somewhere along the way we quit making the payments. Lately we really haven't even collectively tried. Took it all for granted!

OUR freedoms are not the problem ... our GOVERNMENT's freedoms are the problem. We should never have allowed them to take control of all they have control over. That is our downfall.

I don't care how fat your are, you will never be as bloated and obese as our government.

    "Renoir's Women" were all fatties.....

To my mind, "fat" is a problem if CV damage and diabetes (etc) accompanies it.
It's not how you find the notes...it's how your fingers leave them. That's who you are.

People connect the dots and come up with the picture that's in their soul.

When I did my time in the military, sixty years ago, I weighed around 175 when I got out of Basic Training. Today, I'm obese since obese means 30 pounds over your ideal weight. I'll accept I was ideal 60 years ago and if me being obese now bothers someone, I don't care. I did work with a group of counselors once and much of the work I did was with fat people. People you'd call obese. Men and women are totally different on causation. Men, most often, have an active lifestyle and when it changes their eating habits don't change. For women, it's far more complex. I was asked to work with two women who were far more than 30 pounds over-weight. But, both were single and both wore wedding rings. One had never been married and one had been divorced for 17 years. I told the therapist that I'd help them lose weight when he got them to take the rings off. He called me a week later and said, "They won't. It's not negotiable."

It's much more complex for women but for you, it's very, very simple. They eat too much. Duh! I just order some new pants from Amazon. All the pants in my closet are too big. I don't know why I've gotten smaller and I don't really care. I can afford new pants. I'll put the old pants in the back of the closet so they'll be there if I get fatter again.

I faced what I consider our greatest failing today. I was arguing with a Democrat who agreed with most of my facts but then said, "You like to make trouble. I like to go with the flow. I think you should go along to get along." "Even if what everyone is doing is wrong?" "Well, yes."

So, Fall River, before you get the pitchforks out for fat people or smokers or people who don't wear masks you might consider what will happen when they get to your shortcomings. Of course, they might have to point them out to you if you think you're perfect.

I'll be eighty this year and it's been years since the U.S. even tried to be free. People going with the flow have gotten rid of many of our Constitutional protections and all the rest are on the block now.
