I'll defer to @Northern Rivers, but I was also curious so I went and did a quickie online search. Apparently, at least according to the wikipedia page, it is still a prosecutable common law offense (i.e., it is non-statutory) in NSW and VIC: Outraging public decency - Wikipedia

    Interesting.

Laws like that are not well defined by design. A catch-all charge.
What point in time are 'masks' going to start working?

Thanks. Doesn't this sound incredibly subjective?

Bingo. And an example of the down side of never removing old laws from the books. We should have a one to one rule. Make a law repeal a law.

Yes. And according to that wiki article, it comes with an indefinite sentence. It would probably be held as unconstitutionally vague in the U.S.

Things like this could have been changed in 1854 if The Eureka Stockade Rebellion was successful. London was aware of the lost US colonies and didn't want to lose Australia...so...they gave in to the demands. Consequently, "no slate was wiped clean" and old British laws...especially ones (like this) that protected "the dignity of the aristocracy"...remained in place as they do, today.
It's not how you find the notes...it's how your fingers leave them. That's who you are.

Meh, this usually works to clean up a prison cell of the vermin that infests it:

Worked every time it was tried. Never failed. Not once. Not only a deterrent, but the generations that concept followed understood the reality of it. Law and Order, 101.

There are consequences for actions. And they're expected to be carried out. Read your version of the KJB if you don't believe me or agree.
