    Dog gone

    As the first COVID-19 lockdowns took place, many people adopted dogs or cats from animal shelters to serve as companions while they were isolated at home. On the other hand, I also noticed reports of animals being abandoned, apparently by people who had been laid off and could no longer afford to keep a pet.

    Which trend will prevail? If you can’t afford to pay rent, can you afford to keep a pet? This issue has not been addressed by the mass media probably because the pet product industry pays for some of the commercials that keep news programs on the air.

    I checked out six or seven local veterinary websites. Only two specifically listed euthanasia services, but only in the context of ending the life of a suffering pet. Will veterinarians eventually offer to “put down” pets due to economic hardship?

    A sad reality that Pets often take on a heavy burden as the economy turns this way and that.....

    What we need is to educate more people. Puppies, Kittens, and Bunnies are cute, but they are also a living animal that deserves a full life.

    we just rescued two kittens from a feral mother. Theres a gang of feral cats lives nearby, we made friends with a few of them. Two of them now come round for food as a last resort when the are starving, but they totally trust us, One of the ferals was a gorgeous tortoiseshell female who had as far as we can tell, 3 kittens. Two were males , ginger and white and the third i think was a tortoisehell female, an exact copy of her mother. She homed them in the bushes opposite and the kittens would follow her over here when she came for food. The female kitten vanished at some point, i have no idea what happened to it, its probably dead. She abandoned them shortly after, and weve only seen her a couple of times but with no one to feed them the remaining two ginger and white males started to rely on us and they have moved in with us now.

    Every cat weve ever had has been a stray or somones reject, and im talking maybe 15 cats in 40 years. Cats always seem to come of worse in divorces.

    Northern Rivers could tell you about that. Everything alive with more or less than 2 legs wants to kill you in Oz.

    I agree with You UKSmartypants... I see People getting Puppies and Kittens and Treating them like Pets instead of Family... Only One Family in Me group of Friends keeps Their Kitty Inside, all the others leave them Outside and feed them maybee once or twice a day...! My Girl Loves it Outside but when the weather changes, Stormy or Cold, She wants In and She is IN...! She comes and goes as She Feel the Need...! If I don't hear from Her by a certain Time, I bee a Looking...! She is the last of 8, 2 were killed by negligent drivers, 5 were killed by dogs and I Saved Her :

    She is the Apple of Me Eye... I Treat Her as if She was/is Me Child...!

    on a side note, I call Her BooBoo and Bushy...!
