These racers have it down to an ultralight science.

I have a MB on the Surly "Troll" frameset (frame and fork were 500$, ten years ago) Surly also has a "Big Dummy" cargo bike, IIRC.

This thing I am building, is the ultimate cargo bike, for TEOTWAKI, short of a dedicated, bicycle RV camper (probably what I build next)

I would have been a big skeptic on the ebike thing, but the big game hunting community is embracing and using them (fat tire). They are quiet, they don't stink...

Have you been much of a cyclist in your life? I used to do charity Century's every year. I would like to get back to it. I still have my old Cannondale Hybrid.

A durable, steel tube trailer base and the uppers, very light and easily sourced.

I saw one Florida guy that used old political campaign signs as the skin of his camper.

I think of a fold up design platform trailer with gear on it while folded for towing. Then unfold it and set up a one man tent above any wet ground, for nights.

That's what I meant, corrogated plastic, plastic "cardboard" as it were.

Gas station dumpsters are a good place to find large, discarded signs of it. Used some on my green house floor, last year.

Even thought of those old school, flap windows, using it and a simple wire linkage (enclosed in screen, underneath)

If one had to live rough.....

They could run you off and pack up and leave in minutes.

@Kris P Bacon , I’m a hammock backpacker. I’m also against trailers for as hard as I ride and the trails I do. Crossing creeks or going over fences with a trailer is not so hot either. Trailer through a wildlife S-gate, forget about it.

A good bag system on a sturdy MTB is my ultimate bugout vehicle.

The Surly Big Dummy has an extra long chain and seat stays to stretch the bike for big bag carry. It won’t wheelie or bunnyhop, which means I can’t ride the way I want to.

With a hammock and a camouflage tarp, you should never have to worry about being run off.

I hear you, I used to love riding trail bikes (still do)

I'm just looking forward to this utopian paradise, we seem to be plunging into and what devices will come in handy.

There is nothing in society I want to mingle with bike traveling. Being in the doomsday preppers section, we would assume this is a bugout or extended shtf scenario. MTB and getting away from the pavement is the only logical option.
