Walmart Nation Continues To Bleed Jobs

Walmart Nation Continues To Bleed Jobs | Zero Hedge

Warehouse clubs and supercenter retailers continue to shed workers. Along with being Amazon'd, the big box retailers are adopting automation at a light-speed pace and have cut over 42k jobs in the last 12 months.

On Friday, the BLS reported the retail sector lost another 11.4k jobs, the 8th consecutive month of payroll losses.
Retail is one of the country’s largest employment sectors, ranking 4th behind education & health, professional & business services, and leisure and hospitality.
Moreover, Walmart is not only the world’s largest private employer but the largest employer in many states throughout the United States.

The same Walmart that has an issue with selling handgun ammo and rifle ammo to law abiding citizens? Turning political is a really dumb idea. I let their customer relations people know about it.

Walmart, like other large employers, has speeded up their automation because they see a future where they will be forced to pay 15+ dollars an hour for unskilled labor. It is not far away, just let a democrat win the election and as soon as they also control the senate that minimum wage is going up in a huge jump. now, most of them are saying that 15 an hour is not enough, it needs to be 20-25 and hour.

That will kill the economy. And companies like Bezos at the helm continue to say we have to think in a different way about employment. They push the fictional Star Trek model yet never explain how that works.

It is what it is. Companies like Walmart are automating as fast as they can because they have a lot more money now to do it than they will if they are forced by the government to pay 15-25 dollars an hour to all employees.

Like it or not, it is the reality of the situation.

Walmart has been a target of the left for decades because of their policy of low wage entry level jobs to keep prices down for low income people. The new leadership have caved to PC and will be hit with new labor laws.

And yes, even with automation prices will go up!
