    Dems ready to cave...

Report: Government Shutdown Coming To An End, Democrats Ready To Relent?

Democratic lawmakers are ready to cave.
That’s the news out right now from a new report that reveals the government shutdown could soon be over.

At least six Democratic lawmakers have expressed interest in ending the government shutdown in exchange for enhanced border security and a wall, or barrier, along portions of the southern border.

    They are:Sen. Jeff Merkley (D,. Ore.)Rep. Cheri Bustos (D., Ill.)Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) Sen. Ben Cardin (D., Md.)Rep. John Sarbanes (D., Md.)Rep. Katherine Clark (D., Mass.)

    From The Washington Free Beacon:
Some Democratic lawmakers are beginning to crack on their opposition to the wall. …

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) and other Democrats have expressed opposition to any funding for a wall. Pelosi even went as far as calling a border wall “immoral.”

However, some cracks are beginning to form in Democratic opposition.

“Some fencing has uses. Some barriers are useful,” Sen. Jeff Merkley (D,. Ore.) said.

“If we have a partial wall, if we have fencing, if we have technology used to keep our border safe, all of that is fine,” Rep. Cheri Bustos (D., Ill.) said.

“There are areas along the border where there are currently fences that are put up or barriers that are put up that need to be enhanced,” Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) said.“Certainly you need barriers and we support barriers,” Sen. Ben Cardin (D., Md.) said.
“Certain physical barriers can make sense along the border, and a lot of places you already have that,” Rep. John Sarbanes (D., Md.) said.
“I think there are parts of the border that would benefit from repairing fencing and other barricades that already exist there,” Rep. Katherine Clark (D., Mass.) said. …

    That’s great news.

As of right now, this is the second longest government shutdown in American history. You’d have to go back to the early 90s and the Clinton administration to find a longer one.

But if the current shutdown continues into Saturday without a deal to re-open the government, it will take over the top spot as the longest shutdown in American history.

    From USA Today:
The partial government shutdown which began on Dec. 22 is now in its 20th day, and it appears likely to become the longest in U.S. history.

The longest shutdown on record lasted from Dec. 5, 1995, to Jan. 6, 1996, when Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Democratic President Bill Clinton faced off over taxes. But unless there is an unexpected breakthrough, the current shutdown will surpass that mark on Saturday.

The current shutdown became the second-longest ever on Wednesday, surpassing a shutdown during the Carter administration.

About a quarter of the federal and 800,000 workers are affected by the shutdown, which is the result of an impasse between President Donald Trump and congressional Democrats over funding for a barrier on the U.S.-Mexico border. …

What do you think? Will we soon have a deal? Or a new record?

    a new record, I'm betting.
I think the democrats are locked into this & it will take a major split in the party to change things. I don't see that happening soon. As for Trump I think he too is locked into it BUT I also think that he truly believes that we both need a wall & need to have our citizens protected.

A barrier, for 'portions,' of the border?

Well isn't that just great, so the Invaders will soon learn which portions, are without a barrier, and just go there.

That's not, caving, that's offering a shitty compromise.

There are currently areas along the southern border, with only a ditch, or, culvert as a barrier....and, falling down wood/barbed wire fences, where illegals can come across into Nogales.

What determines if they will cave is whether they perceive that THEY are being blamed more or less than Trump? Dem voters will always blame Trump for everything, and technically, on top of it, it is Trump who shut it down. As far as some Dems relenting, so too are some Republicans wavering in support of Trump. What will probably happen is Trump will start it up and declare a state of emergency at the same time so that he is not seen as giving in. This solves two problems at once for him, but then the Dems will take it to court. Even if Trump wins in the courts it will delay the wall even more. So, in the long run, I don't see how the Left can really lose? As I mentioned on another thread there are already ENOUGH illegals here to sway every election to the Dems once the illegals become legal.

The House and the Senate are despicable do-nothing puppets. I'm tired of hearing about their insanity.

The Rodents' problem is that it's THE RODENTS who are not getting paid right now.

The Americans are out here working at good productive jobs and getting paychecks. So it's the Rodent government employees (notice the studied avoidance of the word "worker" there) who are suddenly realizing their direct deposits aren't happening, but their automatic bill pays haven't stopped...and they WILL be hit with bounced check fees if the funds aren't there.

Time for Trump to start building the wall as a national emergency and demanding the Rodents fund it fully, now.

We the People DID NOT vote in a majority Rodent Congress, they stole it via election fraud.

I think not only that I'm not feeling any pain over this, but that there's no one I know who's noticed the government is "shut down", and I'm feeling that since it's such a painless thing, we need them to explain why I should want them to start it back up before they do.
