I really hate to introduce myself .... but was asked to do so.

I am an old guy ... I don't see or hear too well ... I'm not rich ... I always get over-charged for a haircut ... and my philosophy is this ...

The broadcast began and ended with the national anthem and a test screen filled the rest of the time.

Star Trek came much later ... and at the time it seemed very realistic ...

Ahhh.... so you ARE older than me. The round faced tube was my dad's era. But I definitely remember the national anthem and test screen. I'm 69. Knowing age isn't really important. But it helps to know one's reference points in a post... like why you think you are overcharged for a haircut. Yep... prices have gone up but the barber isn't likely living in a mansion. Cost of living has gone up too.... as I am very aware of. Just started living off my pension and social security 2 years ago. Ugh.

You misunderstand my complaint about the cost of a haircut ... I'm so bald it only takes 10-12 seconds to cut my hair.

Well, @Rutabaga, my brother cuts his own hair and has for years. He says it's a good way to do it if you don't care how you look. Of course.....he probably should care since he dresses in a tux for work (bassoonist for symphony orchestras)(usually on mic, camera, and doing solos if there are bassoon solos). He's an old hippy, so

buy a large hand-held mirror and a 20 dollar electric hair trimmer with the different length attachments.


start at the back and move forward to the brow. line up and repeat until all the long hair is cut.

use the trimmer w/o a length attachment to clean up around the ears, in the back etc.


i've asked people if my hair looked professionally cut...ALL said yes.
