Another Russian Weapons System Failure

Apparently even the Russians do not consider the Su-75 Checkmate the alleged replacement for the failed Su-57 to even be a stealth fighter. Its survival strategy is to stay out of enemy defended airspace. What earthly good is the thing?

You can say the same about a Cessna172. Not much of an offensive threat, is it?

It looks to me like a lot of the threat from Russian and Chinese weapons systems is mostly in the minds of the US media.

Sukhoi has revealed a huge weakness of the Su-75 Checkmate, that is, it is not equipped with a “standard fifth generation” engine.

Although it is a modification from the AL-41F1, but this engine will not be able to help the Su-75 Checkmate fly at supercruise as well as hide infrared signals – two core elements of the next-generation fighter aircraft. This “heart” is also a major weakness of the Su-57 Felon, until the new Izdeliye 30 engine is ready, the aircraft cannot possess the tactical specifications as designed.

The above limitation will certainly also be seen on the Su-75, experts confirm that with the AL-41F1 engine, the Checkmate cannot reach a speed of Mach 2, a ceiling of 3,000 km and a weapon payload of up to 7.4 tons as advertised by Russia.

They'll take more losses than our true stealth aircraft but it's still an extremely formidable weapon.

Read up on our WildWeasel Missions in Vietnam and how our pilots in WWII took it on themselves to dive right into flack batteries to silence them.

It's a much more capable aircraft than either the existing F-15's or the upgraded F-15's that are likely to start making up the bulk of our fighter/attack aircraft in the future.

How dangerous will seventeen aircraft be?

Russians and their weapon system customers have additional potential adversaries than just the US. So their systems may be optimized to fight against those other adversaries.

Also.... don't underestimate the power of numbers against a technologically superior adversary. (See LittleBigHorn and Isandlwana). The advantage in numbers will work even against our best aircraft if the adversary is willing to lose lives and aircraft.

Also... don't overestimate the value of steath . The stealth-countermeasure-countercountermeasure game has been going on a long time now and is at the point of diminishing returns ( yes... a pun :) ) for both sides. The Russians are neither super enemies nor idiots. Take them seriously.

I completely ignored the number 17. To me it's meaningless. If the aircraft is relevant they won't stop at 17. If they do stop at 17, it's an irrelevant aircraft that deserves no thread.
