What are the free speech laws in UK and Canada?

I read about these arrest that would be questionable or simply thrown out here, even now. For example, one of the threads about a man arrested for calling Hamas terrorist. Which they literally are.
So are these actions themselves against the law and just allowed? I mean what are the free speech laws?

Also is any gun ownership on your own property allowed in UK? Pretty certain that it is in Canada, but I don't know the details.
