A fish and chip shop owner in London has been ordered by the local council to remove a mural featuring a Union Jack flag and the words “A Great British meal” from the side of his building after some locals complained it is “not appropriate for the area.”

The Daily Mail reports that the award-winning Golden Chippy in Greenwich received the removal order from the council after a “number of complaints about the mural” and the council deciding it constitutes an “unauthorised advert” in a “preservation area.”

The Head Chef of the Golden Chippy is Kris Kanizi. His Union Flag mural has the words "A great British Meal" painted on the wall.

After complaints by some snowflakes the @Royal_Greenwich Council have ordered him to remove it.

A man was arrested during a pro-Palestine protest in Liverpool for seemingly little other than the ‘crime’ of engaging in free speech and carrying a British flag in Britain.

The incident was captured on camera by YouTuber Charlie Veitch.

“I believe he said something to the crowd and the police have arrested him,” said Veitch, although when asked, the man in handcuffs denied saying anything.

I know nothing about UK law and the display of flags, or what local ordinances control was is an advertisement in a historical preservation area.

Painted murals seem to be a big thing here in the Florida panhandle. Every small town has at least one. Usually, they display something of historical significance in the town. Even Dothan AL has a series of murals painted on buildings downtown. Here in the south, murals are a big thing, even in historical districts.

But in the big city, I lived just outside the historic district. Homes that were in the historic district had to have their Victorian paint color schemes approved by the neighborhood council. Any outward changes to building appearance had to be approved. They wouldn't even allow changes to install energy efficient modern windows.

When I lived in Mexico, we were warned in our initiation meeting that flying a USA flag was not allowed in Mexico. No flags were to be displayed, not on cars, not in front of homes, nowhere. I am not sure if Mexico laws forbid it, or it was a "rule" made up to protect us from any ill intent.

As a Briton I can guarantee you that it is not necessary to display the flag unless you are government/military/loyalist etc.

In America it is a lot more commonly displayed (until we got the OMAMA I/II/III terms inflicted.

I hope you like AZ. Moving to FL, overall, is good for me. It's wonderful to have the mobility to make those choices. And if I made a bad choice, it's easy to move away from FL, as property values are rising. I suspect the same is true in AZ. Mobility is a great freedom not everyone enjoys.
