Trident missile test fails for second time in a row

The test firing of a Trident missile from a Royal Navy submarine has failed, for the second time in a row.

The latest test of the UK's nuclear deterrent was from HMS Vanguard and was seen by Defence Secretary Grant Shapps. The missile's booster rockets failed and it landed in the sea close to the launch site, according to the Sun, which first reported the malfunction.Mr Shapps said he has "absolute confidence" in Trident's submarines, missiles and nuclear warheads. The test-fired missile was not armed with its warheads.

This is highly embarrassing for both the UK and the US manufacturer of the Trident missile.

I believe this is the UK's main means of nuclear deterrence. Hopefully, they figure out what the problem is.

We should get a few "Bluestreak" rockets we designed out to test those Yank nukes!

Interesting that the technology, in my opinion isn't exactly new.

 How many failures does it take in the UK before the Aussies pull the plug on their contract?

That system is a very mature one. However, their are always upgrades and variants that are being tested.

Even minor upgrades need to be extensively tested. FN fires 10,000 rounds if they so much as change a screw.

The ministry of defense has slipped on a banana skin on these two failed missile launches, heads must roll.

Lockheed Martin, like many other industries is suffering from brain drain. All of their expertise has retired and their replacements either lack the knowledge or care enough to actually own their tasks.
