Rishi Sunak has won an important victory in the House of Commons (https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/rwanda-flights-plan-stop-blocking-dismissed-tory-rebels-2859613?ico=in-line_link). But he is losing the battle that really matters – for the hearts and minds of the public.
It is without doubt a victory for the Prime Minister to have pushed his Safety of Rwanda Bill through the Commons (https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/rwanda-happy-migrant-scheme-abandoned-2859239?ico=in-line_link), although he faces a real fight to get it through the Lords.
Some peers think it could take months for the legislation to be signed off by the upper chamber, meaning that deportation flights might not take off until the summer – assuming they are not blocked again by the courts (https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/uk-asylum-rwandans-shows-fiction-safe-mps-2860310?ico=in-line_link).

At the very least, Mr Sunak has convinced his MPs to weigh in behind him on his signature migration legislation rather than risking the nuclear option voting it down altogether.
The debate has been on the legal details of the bill, but the impression received by most voters will be simply one of Tory chaos.
The Prime Minister faces a real uphill battle to get his party pulling behind him. Most members of the rebel camp insist they are committed to ensuring that Mr Sunak wins the next general election, but their actions surely make that less likely

The sheer chaos and carnage of this Tory government has been seen b6 the nation…Tories will lose, and lose big.

The UK government wants to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda.

It is proposing new laws to overcome legal obstacles after the Supreme Court said its plan was unlawful.

What is the Rwanda asylum plan?
Some asylum seekers arriving in the UK would be sent to Rwanda, to have their claims processed there, (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61097114) during a five-year trial.

If successful, they could be granted refugee status and allowed to stay. If not, they could apply to settle in Rwanda on other grounds, or seek asylum in another "safe third country".

"Anyone entering the UK illegally" after 1 January 2022 could be sent there, with no limit on numbers, (https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/pm-speech-on-action-to-tackle-illegal-migration-14-april-2022)
