Good! Snip all the wires! This surveillance state BS has to end. We all, everywhere, should have done this long ago. Vote out any politician who even floats the idea pf cameras and surveillance of the public.

Too late now, though. It's here to stay. First is was cameras, now it is phones and internet. They won't stop until they can implant chips to control our thinking. We have given government too much control in our lives.

I would love to drive my mosquito fogger through there, when I open the fog valve a mixture of kerosene and malathion drips into the exhaust manifold producing a massive white fog behind the truck, it works well killing and repelling mosquitos for a week or so.

And if I was driving past a camera all it would record is a beat up Ford explorer without any tags on it creating a huge white cloud as it went along. ;-)

The company I work for pays the ULEZ charge as I have a company vehicle. :)

I wonder how it would respond to "rolling coal"?

Seriously I'll tell you how it is in London.

I've worked in many locations in inner London, it's a huge city. People drive big heavy diesel powered trucks and cars, it's a very unhealthy city.

Whilst working at this building on the hottest day of the year we had to move ducting that was craned on the roof from one side of it to the other, we toiled for most of the day high on the flat roof. Contractors had to seal the side of the roof the ducting was stored on.
When we finished we took a rest just looking over the city, over the broad horizon we saw a black low level band of smog covering everywhere.
True enough we suffered a tight chest and breathing problems for a month after, the problem is real, diesel powered vehicles are killing Londoners.

Something must be done in our cities, ULEZ is not the answer, it's just ripping off the population instead amid addressing the real problem of solving it.
Banning diesel vehicles is one step to saving lives.

it's probably a pressure inversion .. like Los Angeles .. that holds in the pollution instead of letting it evaporate. in the old days it was coal smoke.

Remember when 'taxing the air' was a tongue in cheek remark because the idea was so absurd?

Ultra Low Emissions Zone

Basically you have to have a sticker in your car or registered on a computer to show it spits out minute amounts of pollution. Khan has set up a ULEZ zone that encompasses ALL of London, hundreds of square miles. If you pass a ULEZ camera and your car dont qualify, its costs you £12.50 per day.

Its inquitous. Thousands of cars dont qualify and will get hammered every day. Its ok for rich people, they can buy a car that passes the test, but poor peopel will be forced to find a cheap car that qualifies, (and they are going to be like hens teeth), or get rid of their car and walk, bike and use the bus, or pat the dailt fee.

Tradesmen will get well hammered, think of plumbers working in the are, especially one man bands. Buy a new van or pay £12.50 a day to do your job.

Theres a Mayoral Election coming, this is going to get Khan thrown out of office. The Tory Government could stop it, they have legal powers under The Greater London Authority Act 1999 gives the Government the power to overide the Mayor, but wont use it. People are outraged by the ULEZ, but the Tories are playing a cynical game - let Khan go ahead and cut his own throat electorally. if the Government stops it, they are throwing away a fantastic weapon to unseat Khan with.

IMO, the problem with London is the problem with all big cities, there is not enough room for the plant life that is needed to clean the air.

Here in Oz, you can't cross from one state into another without being on a border camera. Of course, locals find ways around that in the rural areas...through a property...in one farm gate and out another. There are also cameras on the Motorways (aka, US Interstates) that will time your speed between them, see if your registration is current...and...see if you are on your phone. Speed cameras are in parked non-descript cars...usually drug seizures. In NSW they MUST put a fold-out placard on the road saying "your speed will be checked" and...later down the road, "your speed has been checked". Busy intersections also have red light cameras...

I see the protestors are now using stickers lol

Also the Government is saying they cant challenge it under the Local Government act because the challenge will fail. Whats really happening is they want it to go ahead as a stick to beat Labour Khan with at the next elections, including the Mayoral Elections on the same day.

But how can charging money reduce air pollution, what is Khan doing with the revenue to combat it?

Its bollox. here whats really going on:

Khan as Myor is responsible for the buyses and underground rail, known as TfL (Transport for London). TfL was profitable when Boris ran it, Khan came in with the promise of not raising fares. So after a while TfL started losing money because of wage rises and inflation. So he broek his promise and started jacking fares up, but by then people were used to low fares and customer numbers dropped every time he jacked up fares. Its ended up, after 10 years of Khans mismanagement that TfL now owes £10 billion. Its revenue then collapsed during the pandemic and it had to borrow £5B to stay afloat. TfL now loses about £700m a year.

So this ULEZ is just a revenue collection scheme to rinse motorists to bail out TfL, and save khans neck. No one wants it.
