I was thinking how this coronation shows how different our government is from England. Philip can't become king even though he was married to the Queen for all those years. Yet here Hillary could have become president just by sleeping with the president because it somehow made her qualified. Big difference.

That does bring up a question to my mind. Everyone knows that Clinton slept around a lot. Would that have made all of those women qualified to run as president? (wink).

Monika Lewinsky apparently makes a nice living as a Speaker, Adviser and Counselor for women who are bullied and abused at work.

I was just watching for a few minutes and wondering does the kingmobile have bullet proof glass? I guess I should call it the kings chariot, looks to be gold plated, I wonder how much that thing weighs and are the horses being abused being forced to haul that much weight.

Probably has air conditioning too, heck, probably has video hookup with WiFi and instant connections to all the worlds leaders and a little James Bond mini copter stashed in case street toughs want to carjack the kingmobile and melt it down for all that gold.

I wonder how many other options it has, probably a huge ruse making everyone think it's a horse drawn carraige to begin with, if trouble shows it converts to a self propelled armored electric vehicle (that's what all the gold really is, gold tinged depleted uranium) with a 5000 kWh battery for speed and length of trip with solar panels on the roof to charge it and keep it a self contained safety mobile for the king (I'm sure it's also hermetically sealed and only proper air is introduced, nothing that could be contaminated with chemical agents or just plain foul odors.

Let me disabuse you of some wrong assumptions.

Its called the Golden State Coach. The coach is actually made of giltwood, which is a thin layer of gold leaf over wood. The interior is lined and upholstered with velvet and satin. It also features magnificent painted panels of Roman gods and goddesses. Its has no air con, and apparently is hot and stuffy and not very nice to travel any distance in, especially on a hot day, and bitterly cold on a cold day. Elizabeth used to take a hot water bottle with her in winter if she had to travel in it. Its also used for the State Opening of Parliament, and Queen Victoria hated it and refused to use it.

It features gilded sculptures including three cherubs on the roof, which represent England, Scotland, and Ireland. And above each wheel there is a massive triton figure. The windows do not open and are plain glass. Its value is inestimable.

It was designed by William Chambers and made by the coachmaker Samuel Butler in 1763. At 260 years old it has been used at every coronation since William IV’s in 1831.There are only two older coaches in the UK: The Speaker of the House of Common’s Coach is the oldest dating from 1698 and the Lord Mayor of London’s Coach was built in 1758.

Its is seven metres long, 3.6 metres tall, weighs four tonnes, and needs eight horses to draw it. Because of its age and and how heavy it is, it is only ever used at a walking pace.

The Sword alone is worth millions, if not priceless.

....the sword has a straight, narrow, sharply tapering blade of partly blued and gilt steel, decorated on both faces with the national emblems (roses, thistles and shamrocks) among strapwork scrolls, the Royal coat of arms, a royal crown with GR monogram and a later WR monogram, a trophy of arms, and a figure of Britannia. The cruciform gold hilt has short, straight quillons terminating in cast and chased lion masks, densely set overall with diamonds, with ruby-set eyes; with a rectangular quillon block, with a large central emerald on each side - on the front a rectangular stone, on the back an octagonal one, both framed in diamonds; a straight grip set with diamond oak sprays, with emerald acorns; and a pommel set with diamonds, with a central emerald on each side and four rubies at the end. The leather scabbard is entirely encased in sheet gold and lined in red silk velvet. The scabbard is chased with roses, thistles and shamrocks, set with dimaonds, rubies and emeralds, with a similar chased design on the reverse, on a matted ground; the mouth-locket is mounted with sapphires and a ruby. The chape is decorated with diamond oak-leaf sprays with emerald acorns and a large turquoise on each side.

These are the English Jewels of State

Make no mistake. The above is all solid gold, and literally pounds in weight of jewels.

I dispute your date, i have 1003 to 1066 life and 1043 to 1066 king.

Fun Fact

he had a half brother Cnut, who was probably the 'King Canute' of legend. Cnuts base was Gainsborough in Lincolnshire, and its probably in the tidal River Witham that runs through Gainsborough where he tried to hold the sea back, and failed.

Most of us over here couldn't care less about monarchies. It makes you something special simply because you were born.

The thing is that King Edward VIII abdicated the throne so he could marry Wallace Simpson... a divorcee.

I guess that rule has been tossed out so that Charles III can be king.

I know he has prepared himself to be king his entire life. I guess he thought rules meant nothing when it came to him. And his mum obviously agreed. So now we have a putz of a king .......just like our USA putz of a president.:dontknow:

(note from Trinn: he was forced to abdicate because he was a nazi sympathizer. The "love" lie has been pushed by the monarchy and the press even to this day)

This thread is posted in the U.K. Canada, Australia, NZ forum. Americans can only wonder and be jealous of our monarchy, pomp and ceremony. What cucks you are pandering to a 2 party political ideology and then venerating a president who can’t remember his last sentence. Get fucking real.

I'm disappointed in the behavior of those who ruined a good thread. The Coronation is an important historical event in real time and a source of joy and pride for British Subjects in Commonwealth countries around the world. I personally noticed the King of Spain and The Emperor and Empress of Japan in attendance. It's thoughtless to demean such a solemn occasion that means so much to so many and the vulgar language that ensued.

If any "Brit" would like to start a new thread in world affairs or society, go ahead. I'll be watching to ensure civility.
