View Full Version : Queues stretching for hours show what it’s really like owning a Tesla at Christmas

Tesla (https://metro.co.uk/tag/tesla/)owners were having a truly British Christmas this year by queuing for hours to charge their electric cars.
Several snaking queues have been spotted up and down the UK over the last few days.
Nearly two dozen cars were logjammed at a charging point in a Waitrose parking lot in the Hertfordshire village of South Mims on Christmas Day.
One TikTok (https://metro.co.uk/tag/tiktok/?ico=auto_link_news_P4_LNK1) user said the Tesla owners were waiting around one hour to charge their cars at the station. (https://metro.co.uk/2022/12/02/tesla-delivers-its-first-electric-truck-three-years-after-deadline-17866395/)

They said: ‘Here they all are queueing up, waiting for an hour or whatever it is for their charging. They’re everywhere.’
A Facebook user filmed countless Tesla vehicles clogging the Tebay Southbound supercharger in Cumbria by the M6 Junction yesterday.
‘All our electric Tesla friends queueing up to charge up at Tebay Services on the post Xmas trip south,’ they said, adding that it was a ‘struggle to park as very busy’.

This will certainly diminish traffic jams on the Interstate.

We have Tesla charging stations in many places. I never see them in use.

I only know one person wanting to buy a Tesla. He is preparing to install a charfing station at home.

In 2 years time I hope they get everything sorted out, I’ll have enough funds to buy a brand new EV.

The company I work for has got 5 Teslas, the owner rewarded his 4 company directors with Teslas this year. The owner gets a new Tesla every year

I just don't see the appeal of these hideous looking cars. I really don't like the idea of sitting FOR HOURS at a charge station. It seems the people who are most invested in them are just looking for quick local trips here and there and already have a charge hook-up at their homes.

I always chuckle when I see them sleeping in their cars at the chargers near the regular fuel pumps. As I take 2 minutes to fuel up my car and I'm on my way..

Then you will be at the mercy of the government who will be able to control if, when and whee you charge. I shall stick with petrol as long as i can.

They have no demonstrated resale value since the battery will need to be replaced in a few years thus cheaper to just buy a brand-new Gas/Diesel car instead.

That’s good advise. I’ll see how the market goes over here. :thumbsup20:

In all fairness during the holidays, I needed gas. I would have had to wait in line for about 5 minutes so I didn't bother. Today I did fill it up & had to wait almost 3 minutes. hahahaha!

Mondeo wasnt bad, but they fucked it making it front wheel drive transverse mount, it means changing the clutch plate basically requires you to entirely disassemble the front half of the car. Not economically viable, and way too long a job.

The Sierra was much more fixable, you could fix them with a Halfords home toolkit. I could change the cylinder head gasket on that Pinto engine literally in the dark by torchlight in an hour, and retime the engine by ear. I had four Sierras, all 2,0L because the 2L engine had valve cutouts so if the timing belt broke there was no valve to piston contact and no damage. All you had to do was turn the engine back to TDC with both valves closed on cylinder 1 and pop a new belt on, Two of the Sierras made it to 250,000 miles, one became undriveable because of an untraceable fault on the burglar alarm, which would go off when you were driving along, and the last rusted away too badly, from being constantly parked on grass

No I haven’t had problems with the clutch yet …TW

A couple of years ago (covid outbreak) I was told by my mechanic I needed a new rear subframe. He advised me to look on ebay as suppliers don’t carry them. Sure enough they were as rare as rocking horse shit.
It cost £125 plus delivery, I checked it over, it wasn’t in bad nick, I cleaned it up, painted it with two coats of Red oxide spray, when dry I gave it two coat of galvanised spray paint.

It cost £285 plus vat to fit from my Mechanic as it took three men apparently.
Mondeos MKI and MKII had manifold inlet problems, by the time the MKIII was built they’d solved the problem.

Even now my Mondeo MKIII has only got 65k genuine miles on the clock, it’s basically a new car.

I'm kinda sorta thinking of going backwards rather than forwards. Ifn I can ever finish my house, I'm gonna talk to my BIL again about selling me one of the two Power Wagons he has rotting behind his machine shed.

Until the British government outlaws internal combustion engines, a policy it is currently working on. I am sure you know there is already a tariff on driving automobiles into downtown London. And what will you do when getting repairs on your car will be as easy and simple as getting repairs on a Hansom Cab Hack?

I am not against electric motorcars per se. I just don't believe they will be feasible for another 30 years or more. We can't generate enough electricity for normal use now, what will happen when you are trying to charge millions of automobiles every day? Where will that electricity come from?

I know, I know. Rubber band wind up cars, or clockwork spring wound cars. That might do the trick.

My son is a high power installation electrician. When/if I give him the nod he will fit at my expense a charging unit in my garage in my new house I will be living in two years time.
He’s already told me what age sort of house I’ll need for this.
Older house live on a low wattage grid. Modern houses are wired up on higher graded wattage usage.

They can't control when and where we travel if we all do it in private cars. I have long maintained the push for public transportation was not an environmental issue but one of controlling our movements. You can't have us deciding when we are going to go shopping now can you?
