Jersey, one of the British administered Channel Islands,is in dispute with France over permits issued to France's fishermen to ply their trade. The French are not happy with their allocation. The French maritime minister has upped the stakes and threatened to cut the cable which supplies Jersey with its electricity in retaliation. We have to support Jersey so how can we retaliate to the French retaliation.Short of nukes obviously!

Just a suggestion, but Caterpillar and others make some pretty big diesel gensets in modified shipping containers. Maybe just preparing a pad and putting up a couple substations to handle and distribute the load will let them know you are serious?

C'mon. These are the same people upset because a farmer moved a boundary marker two meters. Some people on here keep referencing some primates that wave white flags. :dontknow: Call their bluff.

:smiley_ROFLMAO: If Jersey is anything like New Jersey, the French are in trouble. They should be worried, really worried.

Answer: English ships close the Channel until France restores the line, if they cut it.

That, or, the English government just acts as a typical Western government, and tells Jersey to "get fucked, we ain't helping, pay your fucking taxes."

This is Europe so couldn't we just go to Jersey, pick up a yellow rock, transport it to France to the other side of the end of the cable & then Jersey could claim that they own the cable? (wink)

Latest news.A planned protest by around 100 French fishing boats to harass Jersey this morning(thursday) has resulted in 2 Royal Navy patrol boats being despatched to monitor proceedings. What next?

Typical French behaviour, they are behaving like they always do in a crisis….. mob handed expecting to get their own way.

HMS Severn is a River-class offshore patrol vessel of the Royal Navy. Named after the River Severn, the ship was the first to bear the name in 56 years.

HMS Tamar is a Batch 2 River-class (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/River-class_patrol_vessel) offshore patrol vessel (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offshore_patrol_vessel) of the Royal Navy (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Navy). Named after the River Tamar (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Tamar) in England, this is the seventh Royal Navy ship to be named Tamar. She is the fourth Batch 2 River-class vessel to be built

Makes me want to buy a diesel boat (that's a submarine) flush with torpedos, and a couple of Tucanos and go apply to be the Benevolent Emperor of Jersey.

With the addition of a NG electrical power plant and some sea water cooling we could become the new Dogecoin superpower...

But I digress.

Maybe you can lease something from the Bolivian navy.

It appears our vessels are playing it low key in fear of escalating the situation?

Such it is with rational people facing irrational people until the SHTF.

The French are one of nature's bullies who usually having nothing to back up their bluster when confronted.Their fishermen have a long history of blockading ferry ports to support one dispute or another.Perhaps in this instance if the number of permits they have been allocated is insufficient to their needs, withdraw the total allocation and give them to someone else, then they'll have none at all.Inevitably the French navy has also despatched 2 patrol vessels to watch ours.I bet all 4 commanding officers have been told,FFS don't start a fight. It will be huff and puff for a few days and pass into history.

The French are hopelessly outgunned,i posted in another thread, The Severn on it own would have no problem slicing the French military presence up on its own with its two 30mm cannons, two Browning .50 cal heavy machine guns, and two Vulcan built 6 barrel miniguns (6000 rps of 7.65mm x 51mm NATO rounds at 2000 ft/sec)

Not to mention the Severn is 2000 ton displacement with a 12 foot draft, the french are 108 ton and 400 ton both with six foot draft, and Severn has five times the engine power

Hey Neo!

The US Naval Academy is located on a river named SEVERN, in the state of Maryland . I wonder if there is an historical connection.

It ought to go without saying that sending the Navy to do its job and prevent hostile action against St Helier is not remotely comparable to threatening to inflict blackouts on a neighbour in order to strongarm them in negotiations.
