Blimey, many on here get everything mixed up; religions, race, politics, the lot. The biggest one is the word, "Liberal". For example, with guns and the 2nd amendment, you can be favourable to or respectful of individual rights and freedoms. That's Liberal. If you didn't respect individual rights and freedom, that's not Liberal.

That is what Ron L Hubbard said and then he invented it. The Catholic Church made so much money and power off it they have a seat at the UN.

Liberals DO NOT respect individual rights and freedoms, everything they stand for is group think, collectivism and a big government Nanny State control. Liberals believe in privileges not rights and the UK is a prime example of this. Individuals have the freedom and right to own a gun in America, in the UK it is a privilege controlled by the State.

You need to start reading the dictionary. Your opinion of words is different to their actual meaning.

I'm not sure which way your head is twisted, but look the other way so you might come close to being right.

No, Liberals are in conflict with the definition of liberal. You know like the promise of Socialism, it's all a lie.

I suspect that the many differences between British and American English and it's idioms is the core of the misunderstanding you believe exists in our members. You're confusing and conflating classic liberalism with modern-day liberalism as practiced by the U.S. Democratic party.

American conservatives understand the meaning of the term 'liberal' quite well when it is applied to 'progressives'. Most conservatives are somewhat libertarian and respect American's rights and constitutional protections but today's liberals want total control and brook no dissent.

"Need" now means wanting someone else's (taxpayer) money. "Greed" means wanting to keep your own profit. "Compassion" is when a politician arranges the transfer. - Joseph Sobran

Today's "liberals" are illiberal - they're the opposite of Classical Liberalism.

Just as "Gays" are anything but. The Left loves doing that - appropriating words that put a false happy-face on their anti-life, anti-freedom, tyrannical agenda.

To make it worse liberals have infiltrated and hijacked most of the once progressive causes. A real progressive is quickly becoming a unicorn, and the few left that refuse to disappear are becoming conservatives in the wake of the unhinged absurdity of the liberals exposed in the last election.
