[QUOTE=thedarkdaimon;174809]Actually, your link says the 57% of California students couldn't pass the California Standards Test in English. That doesn't mean they can't read.

Hmm... here is what it says in the first paragraph of the above article:

So they are getting teachers from Mexico to teach Spanish speaking children in America. I'm surprised you missed that.

    Again, from the above article.

I guess they are teaching foreign languages after all.

Actually, I partially agree with you on this. There IS a very educated workforce in California. When it comes to the percentage of adults over 25 who have Bachelor degrees, California ranks at 14 compared to other states, so while we're not at the top, we are most definitely not at the bottom. However, it is clustered around Silicon Valley. The rest of California is suffering. You see, while all your other arguments are bullshit, what you should have been concentrating on is the fact that California has one of the lowest literacy rates in the nation. Some of this is due to the high immigrant population, but a lot of it is due to the terrible education system. If you think this is due to the liberals, then you are totally ignoring the fact that Massachusetts, a very liberal state, ranks near the top of nation for literacy.
I hope you both are aware that there is a huge difference in state "conservatives" and "liberals" over federal "conservatives" and "liberals". With a small minority, Indiana Democrats are pretty much on par with Republicans, with minor differences. We have some turmoil over the past few years, but otherwise we pass budgets and set goals for the next year pretty decently. That is something that alludes Congress--work and compromise, discussion and debate.

for that matter how can it work in any of the states shown on the map that have more people on welfare than are working?

California has an amazing assortment of products to offer, particularly in the food sector. This country would really feel it if that industry went belly up in California.

They are distracting from the facts. As soon as this happens illegals will be able to get on Obamacare just like they are now allowed to get a drivers license, attend universities on our dime, foodstamps, wick, and welfare. The majority of illegals will get free healthcare on the backs of taxpayers to destroy America. We talk about our flag but they replaced our flag at a post office in California with theirs and none were arrested at the protest. Did you notice the media never said anything.

Air flights out of San Jose Ca to Austin TX are called "NERD BIRDS," because they are loaded with techies leaving Ca for good.

The population of the USA is growing at a 2.5% per year rate. CA is growing at a 2.1% rate per year, making Ca 18th in population growth.

Texas as noted above, NERD BIRDS, is 2nd in population growth rate. Second only to the parasites flocking to #1, D.C.

And 69% of CA's anemic growth rate is Hispanic.

The EVIDENCE is already there to see. But blinding liberalism doesn't permit you to be rational or cognitive of the obvious TRUTH.

    Welfare in California

    34%

Of the nation’s welfare recipients live in California but only …

    12%

… of the U.S. population resides here.
    How we compare

California is third among states in per-capita spending on welfare:

    $179

    New York leads the nation:

    $256

    Idaho is at the bottom:

    $17

SACRAMENTO — When Gov. Jerry Brown and the Legislature overhauled the state’s welfare program last month, some people learned a jarring fact for the first time: California has one-third of the nation’s welfare recipients.

That California has a lot of people on welfare was not a secret. In addition to its size, the state has a long history of heavy focus on social services, in part because of years of Democratic dominance in Sacramento.

But the size of California’s welfare rolls is disproportionate when you consider the state has only 12 percent of the nation’s population. Some of it has to do with the benefits being more generous than in many other states, but experts also point to various economic and social factors.

There’s more to support the notion that this is the welfare state. California:

    • Pays out one of the highest maximum monthly cash grants to the average family on welfare, $638.

    • Continues aid for children even when the parents lose eligibility.

    • Provides benefits even to some who find a job and helps with child care and transportation while attending school or training.

On the flip side, California is not the land of endless “Cadillac” benefits:

    • The actual average cash grant for the typical family of three is $463.

    • Welfare payments have been cut twice since 2009 while 18 states have provided nominal increases.

    • The high cost of housing eats up more of the aid than in other states with smaller grants.
