Afghans have been fighting each other and others for the last 10 billions years or more. We have no reason to be in Afghanistan. No one has ever been able to stop the fighting and tame the country. One drop of US blood for this big pile of nothing is a total and compete waste.

The idea that we are morally superior in Afghanistan because we have nothing to gain from the war is the worst kind of depravity possible.

Besides the fabled pipeline that always seems to be behind all our military endeavours, the next most prevalent theory of intervention for the worst country ever, a'stan, seems to be the Silk Road project by the Chinese. Whether to deter it or be a part of it is unclear, but it's probably more of a concern for Wall Street than the average flyover American.
