Will America ever see a more-than 2-party system come into play?

I wasn't able to vote the last presidential election, but I will be able to vote the next one in 2016. I really dislike the 2 party system america has and think both presidents are basically the same, and I want to vote third party when the opportunity comes but many people tell me not to. Voting 3rd party would be useless and all that. Of course with this line of thinking it will always be useless, so will America see a rise to more than 2 parties in the future and is it worth it for me to vote 3rd party?

Hell, it'd be refreshing to see at least a two party system. I'd settle for less then a dictatorship!

A vote is never wasted as long as you cast it for the person you feel best represents your interests. For those who don't vote, don't complain because if you don't participate in they system, you do not (in my opinion) have the right to complain about taxes, laws passed, etc. Even if you write in yours or someone else's name, it does make a difference since it sends a message that not everyone marches in lock-step with the two major parties.

We need more options, the only ones we get are the ones that are chosen for us. The problem is we have too many politicians who are bought and owned and their main purpose will be to fulfill the promises they kept to their biggest donors.

We need average Americans who actually live what we do, not a bunch of rich people who think they can understand or feel they know what is better for us. They are supposed to be working for us, but the fact is they do what is in their best interest first and foremost .

I can't agree with that. Not voting for the reason of not trusting any candidate is being honest to yourself and your country. Think of it as a boycott of sorts. Sure it is not like the candidates will lose any money and still without that one vote there will be a winner. BUT could you imagine where the majority declined to vote out of spite of our shit government and shit candidates? It would put them in a bind and it's not like they can herd us to the polling place and make us vote.

Also with the many people that do not vote that takes away possible votes that could have went to the loser and changed the scene all together. Will make them think of what they could do more to get those votes to their side. You got to think, only around 60% of voters turned up in 2012 I believe, that other 40% could make a huge difference.

NOw if you did not vote because you just don't pay attention and couldn't give a damn, then in that case I agree with your sentiment.

No, we won't see a three (or more) party system. It has been tried and never has worked.

    Answer is, no.

The way the system is set up, makes a three, four or five-party system IMPOSSIBLE.

If you think about it, you can figure it out. If you vote a third party, you pull your vote from the major-party candidate who is more to your liking. So he has one LESS vote; while the other side does NOT have that loss.

So you've just aided your opponent in a win.

Look at the 1992 Presidential election. Clintoon won with FORTY-TWO percent of the vote. Why? Ross Perot took a HUGE chunk of voters from G.H.W. Bush; and so the winner had a PLURALITY. Not a majority.

In European Parliamentary elections, this happens all the time. What happens is someone wins who represents only a SMALL PERCENTAGE of voters; and then with dealmaking, they form a coalition - which is elite-speak for double-teaming, up against the citizen-subjects.

That is WHY their governments are so unstable, weak, and driven by seemingly-insane impulses.

In our system, the government is NOT to DRIVE the people; the people are to control GOVERNMENT. Which means, no laws should be considered until a widespread swath of voters in fact approve of it. NOT, as has been done, small minorities, in with a fluke or from ignorant voting patterns (voting skin color, for example) jamming legislation up the nation's mmm-mmm-mmm.

You will not see a viable third party. You don't WANT the instability and tyranny that would come from it. You may see a third party displace one of the rotten elitist parties today; but only a complete rewrite of the Constitution would enable seating a congress by a percentage of all the fringe-party votes.

Lemme guess. You're gonna vote for the Socialist candidate because by golly! That's a choice!

It will happen if you and your generation wise up about government and the two party system and start voting Libertarian.

    Otherwise, no.
