Toronto Police : Leave car keys ‘at front door’ to avoid confrontations with thieves

Leave car keys ‘at front door’ to avoid violent confrontations with car thieves: Toronto Police

Toronto Police are being heavily criticized online for what many consider a shoulder-shrugging approach to the rash of car thefts that continue to plague the Greater Toronto Area.At an Etobicoke safety meeting last month, Cst. Marco Ricciardi advised residents to leave their key fobs in a faraday pouch in a convenient place for thieves as a way to lessen the risk of violent confrontations.

“To prevent the possibility of being attacked in your home, leave your fobs at the front door because they are breaking into your home to steal your car; they don’t want anything else.“A lot of them that they’re arresting have guns on them and they are not toy guns,” he ominously added. “They are real guns. They’re loaded.”

That advice sparked an angry reaction on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Will the Toronto PD apply this logic to rape victims next?

The obvious common sense answer is to arm yourself if the crime is that bad and have a shotgun sitting at your front door. But nooooo, the left wing loons that run Toronto want you to buckle to the crime.

If nothing else, I would at least have a sign making a potential bad guy think about continuing on. Although I have no idea of firearms laws there.

You can own a firearm in Canada but you must have a license to do so. I would suspect getting that license is about like getting one in California or New York and next to impossible.

I am a big fan of Murdock Mysteries. The story centers around a police station in Toronto Cn in the early 1900's. To appeal to Canadian sensibilities I suppose whenever the police capture a criminal they meekly give up, even when the death penalty will be the end result (which is no longer in Canada anyway). They show the murderer meekly submitting to arrest, even when its only one police officer involved. So, I guess Canadians think their criminals are so guilt ridden by their crimes they are willing to accept arrest. Here of course the cops need 10 or 12 SWAT Team members to arrest someone for jay walking.

Then that would make a sign doable. The perp would have no idea if the potential victim is armed or not.

Another marker of the death agony of the West.

Speaking of Canada ... it's not completely implausible that a future crisis which saw the coming apart of the US, would also affect Canada in the same way. And I can see a new republic being formed by the people with commonsense (ie conservatives), which brought together both Canadians and Americans in a new nation.

Except for Quebec which is French in identity and snobbery.
