Javier Milei is actually winning. Argentina shows positive economic signs.

Argentina's Milei warns lawmakers he will make reforms 'with or without' them

Argentina's libertarian President Javier Milei, in his first policy speech to parliament Friday, said he would push his package of sweeping economic reforms whether or not legislators back it.

"We are going to change the country for good... with or without the support of political leaders, with all the legal resources of the executive," Milei told lawmakers, who have stalled his project of deregulation and budget cuts."If you look for conflict, you will have conflict," he told them.

Milei offered a recap of his first 82 days in office, in which he devalued the peso more than 50 percent, slashed state subsidies for fuel and transport, cut tens of thousands of public service jobs, and scrapped hundreds of rules in his bid to deregulate the economy.

"I ask for patience and trust," Milei said. "It will be some time before we can perceive the fruit of the economic reorganization and the reforms we are implementing."

The good news is at the end of the article. Basically, the monthly budget now has a surplus for the first time in 12 years.

Argentine President Milei To Fire 70,000 Government Workers | ZeroHedge

Argentina's libertarian president Javier Milei, perhaps best known for his shotgun approach to government jobs...

Bloomberg reports that Argentina's President Javier Milei is planning to fire 70,000 government workerspic.twitter.com/GL4TMOpehA

    — Business Blurb™ (@BusinessBlurbUS) March 27, 2024... plans to fire 70,000 government workers in the coming months, in what Bloomberg called "one of the clearest signs yet of how the libertarian’s chainsaw-style approach intends to slash the swollen state."

Beyond the job cuts, Milei also boasted at an event on Tuesday that he has frozen public works, cut off some funding to provincial governments and terminated more than 200,000 social welfare plans, which he labeled as corrupt, all as part of his strategy to reach a fiscal balance at any cost this year.
A good start. Argentina's government is severely bloated.

Milei Announces Argentina's First Budget Surplus In 16 Years

By AFP - Agence France Presse

    April 23, 2024

Argentina's spending-slashing new President Javier Milei has hailed his country's first quarterly budget surplus since 2008 as an "historic achievement."In the first quarter of 2024, the South American country recorded a budget surplus of about 275 billion pesos (some $309 million at the official rate), he told national TV late Monday. This amounted to a surplus of 0.2 percent of GDP.

"This is the first quarter with a financial surplus since 2008," said Milei, referring to his left-wing rival Cristina Kirchner's first year in the presidency.
