    Local Image Tutorial

I wanted to share something with you all that I learned tonight. A lot of you have asked about the images and have gotten lost when your image came out as a tiny thumbnail. @Trinnity, I, and others in the past have advocated for just using off site sources and un-clicking the option to "reference locally". This basically means for every image used on this board we are stealing (hotlinking is the word) bandwidth from other servers and sites. It seemed inevitable but over all hotlinking is not acceptable to webmasters and puts off a very bad vibe. So, tonight I learned the secret to the Vbulletin Image manager and I wanted to pass it on. It'll make using images easier and it'll help noobs realize how to do it. The best reason for doing it however is that by using it this way this server makes a copy of the image and hosts it itself. This image can then be indexed by Google Images and adds an additional source of traffic to the forum.

For example you are looking for a funny Obama Meme...and you find one in Google Images...and you click go to site...you'll be taken to teh image, in it's context, in this very forum. Say you like the forum's looks...you register. Bam. One new member. So on so forth. It's very easy SEO, it'll help this forum, and it'll make using images easier too.

I have already started using it on my forum.

Step 1 - Upload Your Image

Step 2 - Insert your image. Damn! Look at that tiny Thumbnail!! It's useless!!! ....

Step 3 - DOUBLE CLICK the useless little thumbnail....BAM MENU OPENS UP. Change the option from Thumbnail to Full Size and press OK.

Step 5 - Enjoy your full size image hosted at The Politics Forums

    GREAT info, @Cal!

    I have a question, though :

Is there some way to hide the Attached Thumbnail pic?

I've been a member of various forums for many years. This is the first and only forum that won't allow me to post pictures. I've tried several times and get an "error" message to the effect that "the file is too large" or something like that. I do like I've always done: I find an image I want to post; I right click on the image and then click on "copy image file"; then I open the forum's "insert image" function; then paste the URL into/onto the space provided. Voila ... the image appears and life is good ... until now. I've tried other options as well, to no avail.

You have to click to UNcheck the "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" box,

which is tiny, but directly under the window where you put the URL.

It's a LOT easier to just use the "img" tags ~

Bump. People have been asking about this recently. It's not stickied or anything but it's a good tutorial.

“The explanation value of the evolutionary hypothesis of common origin is nil! Evolution not only conveys no knowledge, it seems to convey anti-knowledge. How could I work on evolution ten years and learn nothing from it? It does seem that the level of knowledge about evolution is remarkably shallow. We know it ought not be taught in high school, and that’s all we know about it.” (Dr. Colin Patterson, senior Paleontologist at the British Museum of Natural History)
