as some of us have speculated, if this was a test run, the chicoms have obtained a good deal of useful data regarding rate of infection, dissemination, and governmental response.

imagine if cov 19 was something exponentially more virulent and lethal and was released during, say, spring break or the christmas season.

Yup I've been saying for awhile now that I think this was just a trial run both for our country and China. China is NOT going to put up with us stiffing them on trade.

You are probably right but Trump has his hands full fighting the biological war with China right now.

While I admittedly don’t know everything he is doing to the MC, I do know that he is not doing this without direction from the Joint Chiefs and the Pentagon.

Over the years the MC has expanded and lost its way from its original mission and intent, the MC was never meant to be a standing Army. It is a expeditionary force, ground combat units to be delivered by sea quickly to hot spots across the globe. In the modern world with the ability to deliver forces anywhere by air, the MC has lost much of its identity and have grown into what we have today. Armor warfare has changed the days of armor centric battles have ended, the Army has more then enough Tank battalions to cover that need today.

I see this as the MC returning back to their roots and leaving the Army combat jobs to the Army, they are built for it and do it better. The MC should be a light fast ‘shock’ force, in and out, not saddled with heavy Armor but light and fast easy to move Armor. The current MC has turned into just another big slow Army, they have also lost the first in battle to the Army, that can place its warriors into battle much faster today then the MC can. I believe this is what they want to change and think it’s a good move.

You make some good points @Crusader. Back in the day like way back in the day the purpose of Marines was to repel boarding parties that boarded wooden sailing ships. Another purpose was as coastal raiders. That's why we have a Marine Corps and not a Naval Infantry. The Marines are supposed to be a commando type unit NOT a full blown full size army. Today you have Marine Force Recon and Marines Raiders both special op commando units. The Marines are supposed to be the primer commando unit which they no longer are.

I noticed they are also reducing artillery, etc.

Im wondering how they will be deployed across the pacific.

Will there be Army attached to expeditionary groups?

Or will there just be less tanks generally?

The Army has been expanding their presence and footprint in the pacific greatly in the past decade. It has always been a myth that the MC see’s almost all the action in the pacific theater, even in WWII there were more Soldiers fighting in the pacific then MC by quite a bit.
