That's not something they need to learn. They're with born with that knowledge. It's hereditary.

New member but a veteran of internet political forums.

To be frank, I have little use for leftists and conservatives exchanging petty insults online that accomplish nothing and only serve to cement each others positions. Although I'm willing to state my political opinions and realize they will not be viewed favorably by everyone who reads them, I find arguing with leftists to be futile because they are usually self-righteous, condescending and utterly incapable of seeing any political philosophy outside of socialism as worthy of discussion except to mock it and insult those who happen to disagree with socialist political philosophy. Their arguments are often based on false premises and an ignorance of the failure of socialist schemes in other lands, at other times, which many leftists rather foolishly consider irrelevant. It's often a case of those in the leftist ranks imagining that one day, when socialism reigns supreme in the land, as they are convinced it will, they'll be recognized for their efforts in the cause and become part of the ruling elite, lording it over the rest of us in some leftist fantasy utopia.

Conservatives, on the other hand, are almost invisible in the national media with the exception of talk radio and cable's Fox News, a breath of fresh air as that network gives equal time to both sides of the political spectrum and has many conservative commentators. However, hardcore conservatives consider Fox News to be too 'soft' and liberals, almost in unison, characterize Fox News as the Republican party's puppet. That's O.K., conservatives consider MSNBC the Democrat party's sock puppet. Fox News ratings usually dwarf those of MSNBC (and CNN) so the public has made it clear what cable network they consider more informative. That's why the left hates Fox News. Because conservatives are exposed to left-wing views on a regular basis via TV and newspapers as well as the internet, they tend to have a better understanding of what leftists believe. However, today a leftist can easily live in media cocoon where they will only see, hear and read political views that are sympatico with their own.

Totalitarians at their core, liberals quietly abhor freedom of speech and deeply resent political opinions that don't conform with socialist orthodoxy. That's why I believe internet 'political' forums such as this are valuable and can serve a purpose. However, too often they become chaotic and amount to little more than leftists and conservatives 'talking' past each other, giving off far more heat than light.

I trust this political forum will be a refreshing change from the usual left-right animosity or insular nature of strictly right or left-wing websites. I intend to find out.

"Need" now means wanting someone else's (taxpayer) money. "Greed" means wanting to keep your own profit. "Compassion" is when a politician arranges the transfer. - Joseph Sobran

Something I found out a while ago. Three things...

We are very far indeed from Voltaire's "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Liberals are anti-liberty because they already "know" the truth; hence, they regard the traditional values of free inquiry, with all of its messiness, vagaries, and inevitable culs-de-sac, as wastes of time. They have the facts, about which no sensible person will argue. Consequently, anyone who argues with a truth-possessing liberal must not be a sensible person and is hence not worth arguing with. That such circular thinking is obviously illogical has been no bar to liberals' extensive use of it...Daniel H. Fernald

    ...and...

Character is much easier kept than recovered, and that man, if any such there be, who, from sinister views, or littleness of soul, lends unseen his hand to injure it, contrives a wound it will never be in his power to heal. T. Paine

    ...and...

The function of (liberal) propaganda is, for example, not to weigh and ponder the rights of different people, but exclusively to emphasize the one right which it has set out to argue for. Its task is not to make an objective study of the truth, in so far as it favors the opposition, and then set it before the masses with academic fairness; its task is to serve their own right, always and unflinchingly. (Guess who wrote that)
