    S&W Model 19-9 review.

Got about 300 rounds fired out of my new S&W model 19-9 and I’m pretty impressed with the quality of it. First I have to make it clear I am a semi-auto handgun shooter first and foremost but I do appreciate revolvers and own a handful of them, but don’t shoot or train with them often and believe me it shows.

A lot of people seem to be critical of newer S&W revolvers, lots of dislike for the Hillary hole, two piece barrel and MIM parts. I was too for a long time, a few years ago I bought a new 617-6 and it’s been a great gun. But yeah it’s a 22 target/plinker not a work/defense gun, some reviews on the internet (one posted here) help to change my mind and give one a shot.

Well this new 19 classic is one sweet wheelgun, great shooter, great fit and finish and locks up tighter then a grizzly bear hug. My older S&W’s only wish thier lock up was that tight, it’s impressive. Only real downside of that super tight lock up is it takes a little more pressure to open the cylinder. But it’s a trade off that is well worth it.

Had a all S&W range day this morning, the model 19 and a M&P 45. Yes I shot the M&P much better, it is my comfort zone. But I’m gonna keep working on the wheelgun skills and have a hell of a good time doing it. But anyways the new Smith wheelguns get a big thumbs up from me.

Sweet wheelie!! The stainless steel version M-66 was pretty popular on my dept back in the late 80's to early 90's.

    I regret selling a S&W 686 .357mag 4" revolver. Someday, I'll get around to
    buying another one.

Seems like S&W is doing a better job with their new classics than Colt is. Old time experts say practice with a wheelgun will make a person a better shot with an auto. Don't know if that's true or not.

Totally differant type of trigger control needed, very different grip and manipulation of arms. I do a lot of shooting while moving and it is very hard to do with a wheelgun, that long double action pull is challenging when your shooting for time. I really respect the guys that can do it well, the key is staging that double action pull and breaking the shot at the right time. Very hard to do while moving, right now I’m either a little to early or a little too late. I’ll try to post my targets from a 50 round pistol combat qual run today, big difference between the two guns.

    Shooting a revolver's DA trigger often makes for a better DA/SA semi-auto (Sig P228, Beretta 92) shooter.

That’s true, but I haven’t owned a DA/SA semi auto in many many years.

I need to go shooting this week. As I think I mentioned, I can only legally own my muzzle loaders. My buddy has lots of other guns but we only shoot our MLoaders. Dont need a "constructive possession" charge. Granted, it's private property.

Just made me a new sling, might go sling some stones, this morning. Keeping it old school! I keeps it real!
