    So they are predicting this new force relates to dark matter because it has a photo-phobic effect?

    This would violate the laws of elementary particle symmetry "as we know them".

    It seems to me, just off the cuff, that this is pretty exciting. Something different is happening to the strings, and it only happens infrequently, maybe in the same way that a wave packet isn't fully localized and could "infrequently" interact with something thousands of miles away.

    I think there is a particle quantum-size between the quarks and the "strings" which we have yet to uncover which may explain some of this, as well as how matter and anti-matter exist in opposite arrows of time. This could explain why we only "Mostly" encounter matter and why dark matter and energy do not react with the standard model. If you break down molecules, to atoms, to quarks the scale just doesn't reflect the scale from there to strings.
